Movies: Good/Bad Popular/Classic Art/Commercial-Are there really such divisions?

I have recently watched a movie which makes fun of the commercial aspects of popular movies. But I found out that the movie in question did nothing other than making fun of the work for which many people have put serious effort. I wonder what this movie maker was trying to say. Have you ever really bothered about these fine distinctions between various kinds of movies, or do you care only for those movies which make sense to you?
