Just want to let you know that I would be starting discussion on top 10 of everything and anything under the sun. The first thing I'm going to start discussion on is TOP TEN WAYS TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS. Even the Federal Government acknowledges the fact that it would take years before we could recover from this recession. So together, let's make the list of TOP TEN WAYS TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS. And from your responses, I would compile a list to have our TOP TEN.
So let's start writing.

1)Use public transport instead your own; if you can't then drive more wisely (don't drive too fast, don't accelerate too quickly, find the shortest but the fastest way to get somewhere [the one without traffic jams is better even if it is longer])
2)Save electricity (turn off TVs, lights, etc. when you aren't in the room), remember that devices on standby also need electricity so try to turn them off (unplug them).
3)Find the cheapest grocery store, groceries are something we need everyday so we pay them a lot.
4)Don't order meals, make them at home, it is much cheaper.
5)Try to keep the temperature of your house/apartment at about 18-20°C because you don't waste the energy then.
6)Use the electricity when it is cheaper (wash your clothes at night when the price of electricity falls [I don't know how it is in your country but in Croatia we have cheaper electricity after 10PM])
These are few things you could do. I hope I helped you! Happy mylotting

It is a scary situation, to think that the recession would go on for aniother 3-4 years, it is only going to get worse!!
1, I have stopped using my car now. I dont even take public transportation unless the distance is far too much to walk !It was because i wanted to walk and felt that the exercise would help me. The best thing is the amount of money I have saved, in the past few months..
2,Cut down on eating at expensive restaurants, if you must then try not to have any drinks at the restaurant, as I have noticed that Drinks cost far too much in restaurants, we have a couple of drinks at home before we go out for dinner which is not very often!
3,Making a list while going for shopping really helps! It controls impulsive buying. Many of us buy on impulse and regret later when it is too late..
4,Electricity can be saved in many ways, like taking care to switch of lights and fans and geysers...changing to low voltage bulbs ..

1. As some has already said, take Masstransit instead of taking your own car, or at least car pool.
2. Get together with a group of your friends and join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). You get lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and the farmers get a way to support their pre-harvest expenses. Currently, at pre-harvest time they need to layout a lot of money but don't have any income. CSA helps change that.
3. Try freecycle.com. It's a website where people who no longer need things post them on the internet and other people come get them who have a use for them. Every community has a freecycle now, just about, and you can find a list at the website. I've gotten computer parts, clothes, and even a cat from there. It keeps old stuff out of landfills and being put to good use.
4. Eat at home instead of going out. According to studies, if you forgo one night of going out per week you save $426 a year. That's a lot of money.
5. Buy those Earth friendly light bulbs. It might cost you a little more in the beginning, but overall you'll save money and the planet.
6. Encourage family members to put change in a jar at the end of every day. When the jar is full go cash in the money at a local grocery store, they have those change converter things, and spend the money on a treat.
7. If you leave near colleges especially or in a particularly artsy town, there is probably lots of free performances you can attend, or at least cheap.
8. Use the library. Everybody should have a library card anyway, but you can get books, videos, DVD's, and even video games from them. This saves your budget and they have a bigger selection anyway, unless you are Prince Charles.
9. Use both sides of paper. After you print out an e-mail for example, use the other side to write notes or make a grocery list. I've been doing this since January 1st and realized before I was doing this I must have been wasting a lot of paper.
10. Use e-mail instead of postage or calling. It's faster, waste free, and cheaper.
