hello everybody here at Mylot. why do garbage bags always leak? has anybody around here at Mylot ever found a good garbage bag that doesn't leak? grr. i usually just buy store brand garbage bags and that might be the reason that i find that they do leak like that. i cannot afford to spend much on garbage bags in buying the high priced ones. so tell me, have you ever found a garbage bag that didn't leak? if so, what kind of garbage bags do you use? thanks for sharing and have a beautiful day today!

You are careful as I have never thought about this question and asked why. I am not sure about the answer. Perhaps there are some sharp fish bones inside the garbage bags so that they will leak. Try to use double garbage bags to see whether this situation will be better. I just use the black garbage bags bought from the supermarket. I love China

Good question! I don't understand that. They are just too thin perhaps! Almost everytime I pull it out from the trash bin, it breaks! We use those bought from the supermarket and we have tried a few brands and they are all the same! How disappointing!

And they always leak at the worst times too! I buy the Glad bags usually, but even they leak. And they always leak when it's something really bad. Like if I just cleaned the rabbit litterbox and had to run out the door and set the bag on the floor. Guaranteed that bag will leak rabbit urine all over the place. Now I've learned to either double bag stuff like that or toss it immediately.

I hear ya about garbage bags being high priced, I can't believe how much a box of trash bags cost, but I've been using the same brand for a long time, and no matter how much it goes up, I'll keep using it, because I like the brand and they don't leak, no matter how full you make them. I use the Glad brand.

I think the problem may not be the bag. I dont want to come off sounding like a smart azz, but here goes. The bags are not designed to hold liquid. Maybe if you didnt put anything like that in there, it wont leak??? None of my bags leak.

i will prefer for cheap bags only as those are waste bags only and i don;t want to waste more money for them . i will see that i will put only dry waste items only in garbage . u also don;t put left over drink bottles, tins or cans which have some liquids in it. by this the garbage bag can get leak by soaking more time in liquids. or if any sharp items are there in garbage bag, it can get small whole and it can leak. so don;t put sharp items,in it.

I don't know about garbage bags in the rest of the wrld, but around this house they always leak because our darn cat (still with claws) likes to get into them and tear them apart. AARRGGHH!!!! Every time our backs are turned, he's clawing at the bags that are being filled in the kitchen. AARRGGHH!!!!!

The statement made by you is truly correct. The garbage bins always leak and the whole area becomes unhygenic and stinky. I try and fill in the stuff in the best possible bag but it still manages to leak.

Garbage bag gnomes poke holes in them.

I think there are little garbage gremlins that cause the problem. As you take out the trash they run up and slash the bags.

I too have had this problem and was getting really frustrated at having to clean the garbage can all the time...not to mention cleaning the floor after it drips all over the place. Someone told me to try the flex bags...so I did and I love them. Since I have been using them I have had no problems at all. They are a bit more expensive but I would rather spend a bit more than spend the time cleaning up the terrible mess the leaking leaves.

I think the trash or garbage bags leak because too many people try to get as much as they can into one bag, which stretches the bag and makes the plastic thinner. Maybe putting a bit less in these bags will help the seams to hold better.

Oh, my, TnWoman, I am sorry that you have had so much trouble with your garbage bags. I do spend a little more on my bags, Glad Hefty Cinch Sacks, because at the end of the day they are more cost effective. By the time you have cleaned up the leak, grabbed a new bag, not to mention materials used to clean mess, you have used any monies saved by buying cheaper store brands. I guess it is true ... you must spend money to make or "save" money.

They do it on purpose too just to make you mad. I buy the cheap ones too, its shocking what trash bags cost. I have been buying Ruffies, they are cheap and surprising strong. They come in a roll, in a plastic bag. I have gotten them at Walmart as well as the dollar store. Even if you had to occasionally double them up, they are still cheaper then the other ones. Walmart brand trash bags aren't too bad neither.

Oh I guess I should send you some of ours. We get them free from the local council and they are strong too! We get one type (yellow) for plastic and one for kitchen waste (white) and the paper we have to put in a seperate bin. These bags then go out side in communal bins but I can honestly say they don't leak. Guess if they did the council would get even more complaints so so it's in their interest to provide decent good quality bags

I think when you try to fit in cans and boxed into a garbage bag by stepping on it or pushing it down, the sharp edges puncture the black bag. We all know that plastic isn't a very durable material anyway. But we also want to fit in as much trash as we can iside a plastic bag. I know that has happened to me so many times now. So instead of saving a bag, I have to double the leaky bag and clean up the spill! :(

Hi TnWoman, I hate it when that happens, I always buy the shp brand ones but always make sure that the bag is thick if not I have to use it double just to be in the safe side. Love and hugs. Tamara

Hey TnWoman! I have never found a garbage bag that doesn't leak! I don't really believe that any of them don't leak no matter who makes them or how much you pay! It all depends on what you put in them! I now buy the store brands only too. I don't feel like spending all that money to just fill it up to take it outside to throw out the garbage anyway. I really have never found any that were that strong and I have tried alot of different brands!

The only ones that I have ever found not to leak are, unfortunately the more pricey ones. I buy either Hefty or Glad, which ever one happens to be on sale. So far, unless we poke a hole in them, they don't leak. Another alternative that may help would be to double your bags when you put them in the trash can. That way, you are still using he store brand, but you are making them thicker, so, less likely to leak all over the place.
