When you write a title to your discussion here at MyLot, do you write a title in question form or statement? Is your title composed of punctuation or do you leave out all punctuation? Do you ... at the end of your title, use a question mark at the end of your title, or simple put a period at the end? Do you spell incorrectly to get attention, do you capitalize all words to get attiontion, or do you use shock appeal of any kind? How do you title?

So sorry for being late in responding. I would like to have my discussion in question form most of the time but I can start a discussion by giving information in my titles too. In any case I will use a ! or ? at the very end. Sometimes, If I feel that title is too long that I am getting out of limit then I will use .... and then continue the title in my discussion area.. just like: We can enter only 5 tags per discussion then why... .. do mylot asks us to enter more tags when we respond to a discussion I hope you have understood my point, did you?

I have tried all kinds of things to get attention, from full and correctly punctuated questions that spell out the content. And I have tried to be "cute" peek interest as to content. I can tell no difference in effectiveness. I think the tags make more difference than I first gave them credit.

That's where having friends comes into play. I am selective about friends because I don't want to read some of the discussion questions that show up with some Myloters. So that means fewer friend browsing my recent discussion questions. But I am finding out that writing in the interests is important. When I post a general question, it often goes by the wayside. Ones that line up with an interest, draw in others who check on that interest area. I've made some new MyLot friends by doing that, some I probably woundn't have attracted otherwise.

I think the title of a discussion is based on the topic. That means some times the title could be a question or it could be a statement. Punctuation helps the reader to know if they will be asked to answer a question or if their advice is needed. Maybe you just want the reader to give you some insight or their point of view on a particular topic. Incorrect spelling or text type spelling may get you some attention but personally, I avoid discussions that are hard to read or that need to be translated. All caps is considered to be the same as Yelling. I don't think that is a good way to get people to respond to your discussion.

Some very good points royal52gens. I know all caps can be the same as shouting, but do you think all capital letters to start the words, such as in the title of this discussion, are inappropriate or offensive? And I agree with you about punctuation and incorrectly spelled titles. I tend to be put off by them too. Thanks for sharing.

I use titles in two ways. One way is a keyword and another way is a sentence. I might write something like "Do you like ...?" or "Have you ever been to ...?" I try to spell correctly. With a title I won't use punctuation but with a sentence I do tend to use punctuation. I think if I write in solely capitals it might look like shouting so I don't do that.

So you treat it like an article? Or you treat it like a conversation, that just happens to include your keyword? I shall pay more attiontion to those points. Thank you.
