Why is it that when we are young we want life to hurry so we can become older, and when we are older we want it to slow down and wish we wer younger?

When we are younger and under someone elses control like our parents, we cant wait to be old enough to do all the things that seem to have restricted age limits like drinking, driving,(not together ofcourse!) making our own choices, etc. We all know that when you are eagerly anticipating something that times goes very slow. Now when we grow up and have many reponsibilities, its just the opposite, time flies and there isnt enough hours in the day to do all that we have have to do as the adults we couldnt wait to become! So put on the brakes, live each day to the fullest, live like every day could be your last..we are not invincible as we once thought as we waited to grow up!

Right, when we are younger we look at only the rights we will have, and we do not really stop to think of all of the responsibilities that go along with that. =)

Somestimes being in the "now", or antcipation for something in the near or distant future gives us a perception of time taking so long to get to any given event you are looking forward to. Then, once you are there, its over, just like that. Its all about perception. I myself am 25. I can tell you the last 25 years seem to have gone by in a blur. I have many memories, but to me the age of 50 seems so very far away. However, with every year I get old, time seems to be speeding up. its all about perception. as a child you don't have as much responsibility, stress, and things to occupy your time. as you get old, you get busier, you observe life more, and while you are occupied with your day to day tasks, a week at work flies by in an instant, while a 12 year old on school vacation for a week seems like a lifetime.

Hi stacyv! I guess, it is human nature. I do remember when I was very young, I wanted life to hurry up so I can be a teenager. I really want to know the feeling of wearing a bra! I love to wear also those awesome jeans and shirts and have a sexy figure. haha..But when I became a teenager, I wanted life to hurry up again so I can become one of those young women who have careers and wearing those beautiful suits..So when my time came to wear those business suits, I want life to bring back those times when I was still in school when all I worry about is how to ask my mom to give me extra allowance. LOL..Now that I am in this age, I am happy with my age but would really wish for time to really slow down so I can at least savor and enjoy every minute that I have. Time is flying so fast for me now at this age and hopefully, I could say that I have enjoyed every minute of it. Take care and have a wonderful day! lovelots..faith

Because we want all the privileges that come with being an adult. So we get in a hurry. Then all of the sudden we are there. And we realize how short life is. So we want to put on the brakes. We get smart and wish we had taken more time to cherish our youth.

when we are young we see life in differnt ways, we see life long and we would like to grow to make everything what we wish. When we grow we feel life short and want to reverse the clock back.

I also experienced that when I was a kid I want to grow faster because Im so curious about the feeling of being tall and I dont need to call my parents when I want to get something in high places. Now, there also times that I want to go back in being a kid because they don't have responsibilities that adults have. I also want to do the things that I didnt do when I was a kid because I never experience playing outside with other kids.
