I keep seeing an advertisement for a film about a boy who is under the care of children's services (in other words, he is waiting to be adopted). From books and other movies, I have come to the conclusion that those who have been in the system have faced many hardships. Has anyone here been adopted or grown up in the system? If so, what were your experiences?
If not, do you know anyone else who has?

I am not adopted but I have taught children that were adopted. One little girl was from Colombia and she was placed with foster carers for a couple of years. She was put up for adoption and she wanted to stay with her foster parents. It was upsetting to see her being adopted but hopefully she is now happy in another loving family.
I taught a boy aged 7. He had a 9 year old brother that he had lived on the streets with after running away and he had a 4 year old sister. He was fostered by a couple and the lady had tried to get pregnant for 10 years. She found the boys very challenging. The older one had lost all his hair through worry. The one in my class was much more difficult when the couple adopted the children. The lady came to me in tears and said the girl was great but she found the boys almost impossible.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I guess it just depends on a case by case basis.
