Same goes with the cowboys. What's the story behind this? Should they be aptly named horsegirls? How about the busboys, why do they belong in a cafeteria instead of bus?

remind carrine to send you pictures of her in a cowgirl suit. :-D you've been confused as to why it became cowboy, or busboy, right? I have been wondering for ages why they call themselves waiter! and bellboys! :-D

hi modstar...cowboys took care of cows/cattle. they rode horses as they drove the cattle in search of food and water. and busboy would bus away the dirty dishes.

Cowgirls and cowboys don't just ride horses, they also do other things pertaining to animals. Bullriding, bull riders are sometimes called Cowboys. I guess really the opinion of why someone names themself with this just depends on who they are and what they do!

lol well there are also those who enjoy the music and lifestyle but aren't in it. I'm one of those! I can only imagine how hard it is, on t.v. it doesn't seem that bad... but well off t.v. I'm sure there's a lot of cursing and such like that going on!

It must be really tough to be a cowgirl huh? I don't know if i can handle a raging bull. Much more if they're a pack!

Yes the ENglish language is quite RidIcUlOuS! One time a Chinese friend of mine wanted to know the difference between the words bowel and bowl. Ummm, ahem. I was like, "Well, there is quite a BIT of difference, LMAO!" For starters, you would never be able to eat your cheerios from a bowel, nor would you want to. AHahahah. Just as you would NOT want to have a bowl movement! OMG could U imagine!????

From Wikipedia: "The word "cowboy" appeared in the English language by 1725.[3] It appears to be a direct English translation of vaquero, a Spanish word for an individual who managed cattle while mounted on horseback. It was derived from vaca, meaning "cow."[4] This Spanish word has a long history, developed from the Latin word vacca. Another English word for a cowboy, buckaroo, is an Anglicization of vaquero"
