Have you ever had a story in your head?

This is probably better to be put in the category of writing, but I guess it's just as good here in the questions and answers. I have a story in my head, if you can tell by the way my writing is a bit different here in this post. I don't know what I want to write about but I've been reading a few things on a site I just joined and I've posted two things myself. I kind of want to write a story now. I've read a few from the site that I didn't like though, lol, but that's beside the point. So have you ever had a story in your head but just didn't know what to write.

thats a common problem with people in my situation, college students. a story, or a paper, same difference, its always harder to start than to finish. i found it easiest to just think about what you want to write and then just write. it wont be perfect the first time, but people have always told me that revision is the most important step in the writing process.

Yes the easiest does always seem to be the beginning of the story, and then finishing the story is just the hardest part. I think that I have heard that revision is easier as well, but sometimes I just delete what I have, or throw it away, depending on if I am on the computer or writing it out! I appreciate the response!

I am notorious for getting story ideas, starting to write them and then stopping before they are finished. Once I stop, if it isn't a finished product, I have ahard time going back to it, so, my stories end up deleted. My goal is to master it one day and actually write a book!

I've done that too, with the whole starting stories, thinking they aren't good and then throwing them away. Glad I'm not along in that either. I keep re-starting one story now for one reason or another. There's a site called storymash.com you should look into it, maybe it will help us get better at writing. It's a contributing site so therefore you can start something, others work on it!

Don't know if this will help or not, but I thought I'd add in my thoughts. I write a lot, so much over the years that I have notebooks, and notebooks, full of stories. One of the things that I find helpful is to sit down and write it out just like you were talking to a friend and telling them about something that happened. When we're talking with a friend, we don't censor ourselves, and we just talk and let it flow. Same when crafting a story, in a way. Another thing I do sometimes is to tape record myself talking like I would to a friend. Sometimes I think the harder we try to get the words out, the harder the process of writing seems. One thing nice about doing it this way is that the story comes out, and it can get cleaned up and more coherent later. Another thing that might help is to write the thought for the story down. Just a rough idea of your thoughts on the story you want to write. Then when you get that down, write a timeline with the beginning of the story idea at one end, and your expected ending idea at the end. Then fill in the timeline with your course of events you want to have happen in the order they would come in. This gives you a sequence of what's going to happen to eventually reach the end of the story. Good luck with your writing!

I appreciate the advice, that does sound like a good way to get thoughts down on paper! I think that in school we did the timeline thing, although there were various other ways we were taught as well, and in the same class period mostly! lol! Well I appreciate the response!

This is another really good discussion baby, and this is also a very interesting topic because and it seems like a topic not a lot of people would cover because I am sure not a lot of people would think about it,and I am sure that different people have different opinions when it comes to stories and having a story in their head I am sure that some people can have a story in their head and then easily and instantly put it into writing, and then I am sure there are people who will have a story in their head for a long time, because they do not know how to put it into writing, and I can understand both sides, and I am not sure you could say I have a story in my head, but there are times I have thought about ideas of things that might sound good in a story, even though I would not even know where to start when it comes to writing or knowing what to write, unlike our friend who has a series of books in his head for over seven years, and he is not having a whole lot of trouble putting it on paper, and he likes having us read it as he write it,I love you with all my heart and soul, have a great day, good luck with all your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

When I started reading your response I thought you might mention this friend, and I had actually started thinking about this friend once I starred reading your response. Yes, he doesn't seem to have any trouble but with a story in your head for seven years I would guess he wouldn't! I hope that he does get it published and earns royalties from it, I'm sure that it would be a rewarding experience! I appreciate the response baby and I love you with all of my heart and soul!

yep i have definetly had stories in my head, that, when i sit down and try to write it out, would never turn out the way i wanted it to XD i really dislike that, because it seems like its such a good story, but its so hard to put it into words~

Yea I know exactly how you feel. It's hard to write something that you've already pretty much thought through without having time to write it out. Glad I'm not the only one who's had that happen to me.
