Is lip-syncing acceptable?

Do you think lip-syncing is acceptable for live shows? Or does it depend on the situation? What's your opinion? I've recently found out that the superbowl (U.S.) artists who sing the Star Spangled Banner - have ALL been lip-syncing since 1993. I find this incredibly hard to believe! & I'm also curious as to why that's necessary. I honestly don't think it's necessary for these singers to lip-sync the anthem & I honestly don't find it acceptable at all. What about you?

I believe that if you are a professional singer, you should use your own voice live. Now if I were asked to sing, everyone would be happy of someone else was singing the song and I was lip-syncing.

In all honesty, it is not acceptable. Yet so many "singers" (and I use that term loosely) do it all the time. Why? Because the whole music industry is no longer based on music, but on image. Many of the famous "singers" of the moment are there because they either have the right "look", or they know the right people, or both. With all the technology available in the recording industry nowadays, anyone can sound great on a recording. It's what's commonly known as "studio magic", and it's used on most recordings now. It's such a shame too. If you listen to old recordings, artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, even Elvis and others from that era, it's all them. There was no digitization, no auto-tune, nothing. They may have had to do several takes before getting it right, but it was still them doing it, not a computer. If things were still like that today, then "singers" wouldn't need to lip-sync, because pretty much only the actually good ones would be famous.

NO. for me lip-sync is not acceptable. i am in the entertainment world and i play bass in a band. if you cant sing you cant sing dont fool us. there are a lot of good singer who are yet neet to be given good breaks so i dont like songer who lip-syncs specially the professional and the ones who are at the bill board charts. i dont lke britney she lip-sync a lot. miley too. madonna sings and dance even she is older already but still she does not lip-sync. if you want to do this a career then please dont fool people by lipsync. it looks stupid.

Def not acceptable. If they're amateurs, we don't expect anything else. but for pros to do that - it's like they're cheating their audience - which is really bad of them. Amateurs do it because they don't have the confidence to pull it off correctly, but pros have years of experience under their sleeve and unless its a live broadcasting, this isn't necessary at all. If their fans found out, it would be a blow to their reputation - or worse.

I don't approve of it. I mean let the artist shine, and perform it live, it's hypocritical for them to lip-sync IMO. I've heard about Jennifer Hudson lip-syncing the Star Spangled Banner at the SB and it's a shame, coz she has an amazing voice, and should've sang it live.

I think that they should not lip-sync because if it is your passion to sing/ entertain then you'll probably enjoy doing that personally with passion. Lip-syncing i think is only accepted or done by singers who are just really in for it for the money and not the whole passion and beauty of it.
