I used to dream about the names my children would have. The names changed so many times I can't remember the first ones I chose!
But, when the actual time came and I was very pregnant, I had a few names to choose from. I didn't actually pick their names until I saw them for the first time. My first-born was going to be Matthew or Andrew. When they first placed him in my arms, I looked at him and said, "You're a 'Matthew', aren't you!" His middle name was chosen on the spur of the moment because the very next morning a woman came to me and asked me what his name would be for the birth certificate. I hadn't even thought of a middle name!
His last name has more than one syllable and his first name has more than one syllable, so I quickly picked a one-syllable name out of thin air. "Paul" I said.
My mother had told me that my name would have been Paul Gordon [last name] if I had been a boy so I suppose that might have been the reason I chose it, but my mother thought I had picked that name because her name was Pauline. She was in HEAVEN! Her first-born grandchild 'kinda' named after her. I never had the heart to tell her I chose that name because it was the first one-syllable name that popped into my head.
