Although we know that we should not judge a book by its cover, we still cannot help it but judge people by how they present themselves in public. We often show more respect to people who dress impeccably even if there is something wanting in his/her character, even if he is the most crooked crook..LOL..what are your thoughts on this.

Yes, thats right. Most of us do get carried away by outward appearances only to regret later. Nowadays even the most well heeled and best dressed person can turn out to be the biggest crook on earth, eg, Mr Maddox of USA.The criminal with a scruffy, untidy and evil look is past and so we find that the most polite and well mannered person turns out to be a conman. How on earth can we identify such people. Gullible people are conned by such smooth talking crooks. It is difficult nowadays to judge people only by their appearance. However such persons one day or the other show their true colours and then get caught. Personally i haven`t come across people of this type since i do not socialize very much infact not at all so till date i haven`t been conned as yet, fortunately.

i think (almost) every has that tendency to judge the appearance a little too quickly... even I... but u know, i don't take my own judgements or thoughts too seriously , especially if it's a first impression... but i think more often than not there are cases when the outer look of someone / something actually speaks for whats on the inside? i don't know...just my opinion... =p

I don't judge people by their appearance. It's become a rule that I live by. It hasn't always been easy, but with time, it becomes easier. And now, it's in my system, and I don't judge other people by the way they look, especially since chances are, if I do judge someone by their looks, I'm wrong.

i think that goes true that we should not judge a book by its cover, and i believe that it goes same with people. We cannot judge people by their appearance, actually some times people are very different form what they appear as you see some celebs and other famous people have very strange habits and they are very different from inside. So i think we cannot judge people by their appearance.

I do judge people a lot all the time. i think the outcome is mostly positive. It's human instinct to judge people by their look since ancient times. By a glimpse look, people will determine " is he going to hurt me? is he kind and helpful to me or hostile?" yeah, we say "never judge a person by its look.", but in most cases it means don't judge people by his dressing. someone looks rich may not really be rich. But for a short meeting, what do we judge people on ? still, we have to judge people from his appearance. for example, by his dressing, if it is neat and clean, we can say the person comes from a good background, at least he pay attention personal outlook. if he wears a costly watch, it may imply he emphasis on high quality product. A very noted example of this is the well-known detective, Shelock Holms, by a simple glance, he can tell so much about a person, like his family, his marriage, his economic situation, whether he has been in the army, where he has been to and so many potential things. By observing a person's outlook and appearance, i can tell something and i am sure other people also have such ability.

You're raised some logical reasons here. Yes, I remember Sherlock. Of course, that is why I said that we know we should not but still we can't help it. I initially do too, but I would always take a second, more critical look. Thanks for that valuable in put and happy mylotting.

As you say, we all know we shouldn't judge people just by how they look. I admit that I do judge people on first impressions. However, if it is a bad impression, I will generally try to get to know the person better so that I can prove my first impression wrong.

I go for that 'first impression'. I am drawn to people who look neat and smart and who talk intellectually.

hello. talking to the appearance, i do not judge person only by their appearacne but everyone of us know that good look ofcourse help .proper wear and perform the proper behavior in public will help them to left good experission on others . it's soem way to learn the person 's character also, but as we know, there are lots of person who possess high character but not so rich now, they only can dress as clean as they can instead of those dress as dear as they can.

I think it's absolutely inevitable that people will judge others on their appearance, often without even realising what they're doing - human beings just seem to be hard-wired that way. It might actually be a good thing to be conscious of the effect someone's appearance is having on you, because that way you can challenge the assumptions you're making about that person - ie. 'am I only thinking this because of the way he/she looks?'.

I do think how you dress projects alot about yourself...confidence...pride....and I think if you want people to take you seriously you need to watch your appearance..in public that is...at home it's anything goes!

Yes, I do judge! Then I look again and try not to assume things. I see alot of homeless people when i am riding my bike on the greenbelt. I feel bad for them but alot of the time they are visably dirty and tattered. The river is right there nearby and yet they are dirty. I must say I am apolled. It is not hard to keep clean if you care at all about your appearance. I wonder if it is because of mental illness or what else influences this behaviour.

I think its kind of a part of human nature to judge people in some way, but like some other human reactions judging someone by first glance is not a good reaction, because sometimes in fact a lot of times our judgements are wrong, and I think we should never judge a book by its cover, but I think we've all bean guilty of judging people at one time or another, Iv even made judgements at times, but with that being said. I think in our world and society its important to try to make positive impressions and try to look and feel our best, because unfortunately we live in a very judgmental world, and if we want to get a jobs and other things it sometimes helps to put your best foot forward, not just for society but for ourselves more then anything else.

It is no secret that the way you dress and act is the first indicator to others of who you are. Although I don't like to judge solely on appearance, I don't think it's entirely wrong to judge initially based on appearance, because in the same way that I wake up every morning and dress the way I do, I'm asking others to see me as a person that my clothing and actions reflect. Everyone makes a choice to dress and act as they do because they want to reflect themselves a certain way, and, in turn, be viewed a certain way. By the way we dress and act, we are putting ourselves out to the world - we cannot tell others not to judge us when the only thing we are giving them to determine our characters on is our clothing and actions. If people don't like the way they're being viewed from just glances, then I would suggest they reevaluate whether their clothing/behavior actually matches the person they are inside.

I don't judge people by their appearance. Some people just have a knack for clothes, others enjoy being comfortable. It is inside the person that truly counts.

Yea, its absolutely correct, people often choose the people by their appearance but it is not so correct to judge by their appearance. The main thing in judging the people should be their heart, their attitude, their humble and so on. One cannot judge people unless we met the one, so it will not be justice to judge someone only just by their appearance.
