Does anybody have some practical suggestions for patching snowants? I have 7 children who are rough in their snowplay and often put holes in their knees. I have tried denim from old jeans as patches, but they seem to get and hold water too readily... Any suggestions for a cheap, water-resistant fix?

duct tape, it works for almost anything, and is water resistant. Not to mention you can sometimes find it in different colors and reflective. I know it sound silly but it might just work.

Good grief! Why on earth didn't I think of that?!? I AM married to the duct tape KING in our area... I'm ashamed to say that the thought of employing the universal fix-all never even occurred to me. Thank you for openning my eyes... I'm off to fix some snowpants.....

Could you maybe see if there's any nylon repair kits in a camping section? Ya know the kind to patch tents or other outdoor equipment.
Otherwise I'd shoot for trying the duct tape as well. As my oldest doesn't wear through her snowpants yet, she's only worn the same one for the past 3 yrs! (got them big)

I used to put those iron-on patches over knees, and then sew them down too. They were pretty indestructable for knees and elbows on the playclothes and such. If you have a sewing store around you, check out the iron on ones, they make them big, and they also come in a variety of colors and patterns. The iron-on ones are probably more resistant to soaking up water too because they are more dense than regular denim, plus they have that iron-on stuff fused into them on the back side (almost like it's waxed lol) Even though I had girls, they were pretty rough and tumble in the snow, and were hard on their snowsuits and all. I also liked to pass them down, and with the patterned iron-ons it seemed to keep them newer looking. Duct tape idea sounds good, but I'd bet that after a day of playing in the snow and getting their knees wet they would just curl up and come right back off.
