Hello friends.
I would like to know whom of you is using linux as his usual desktop enviroment, and what distro are you using for that.
I don't want know who's using linux for a server use, or as a firewall (for example using a dedicated distro like IPCOP).
I just want to know how many people are using linux for their normal desktop use, just like millions of people are using XP or, sadly, the resources vampire called Vista.

Hi, pierone
I am using a linux as desktop environment since I am a open source engineer. People who like open source or work on open source just like the free and GPL tools, so I use ubuntu as my daily operating system. I always also upgrade ubuntu along with ubuntu group.

Thanks for your response to my discussion, friend. I'm actually using ubuntu too, and I would like to try fluxbuntu on an old computer, to see if it can work well with this kind of linux distribution. Actually that old computer works well with a DSL or a puppy, but works better with a win98. It's sad but for the oldest computers seems Linux is grown too much to fit their few resources.

Hello.
I'm using Ubuntu on a quite old laptop, and I'm really satisfied with it. The computer run well, not too much slow (seems a bit faster than with XP), no blue screens at all.
If the linux development will continue in this way, and people will become smarter, I guess in the future linux could be the most used OS.

I am using an Asus Eee PC right now and it has a modified version of Xandros. The way it comes out of the box is way too simple and complicated to add apps, etc.. Plus you couldnt change the desktop, so I configured the advanced mode and seems to be ok. More like a true linux now. I want to try out Pupeee Linux, I hear it works great on these tiny things.

Well, I did think about installing Linux to use at home.
But the PC being a common use one, it is tough to make that jump to Linux.
Cos everyone else at home is only familiar with windows. And if I make that shift to Linux, there is gonna be a whole host of problems with everyone in the family.
From applications to printing to even surfing the web, everyone is going to cry for help all the time.
So I decided to stick to windows for now.

hi, i use linux as desktop... Fedora core 10 is its distribution. i was using kde 3.5, but since fc10 includes kde 4 in which resource intensive like vista, i switch to gnome - a bit ackward but gnome is the only alternative...
fc 10 lack of multimedia feature, but it's okay for me. i want to try slackware 12.2. they said it still using kde 3.5. i don't know it yet. i still download it right now... if it true, then maybe i use it.

I'm using Linux as my main desktop OS. Currently my distro of choice is Arch Linux. I like it because its optimize of i686 processor and it using package manager pacman which is a powerful as Debian package manager apt-get. If you want to find other Linux distro you can go to http://distrowatch.com
