How do you think about social networking? Bad or What? Say here !

Hi hydenisama,I just had to comment on your discussion of the huge outbreak of social networking websites into the medium of the internet.Personally i think that they are a great thing,I fail to see how they could ever be thought of as bad for our society or anything like that,I suppose the negative people will think that the sites are bad for people socially as they are constantly sat in front of their PC rather than actually being out in society and interacting with real human being's.The way i see it though is that i have a great time on websites like Facebook,And i have found countless old school friend's that i would normally never have seen again in "real life",So having the ability to find them in seconds should not be sniffed at,And i think the most important thing to remember is these sites are there to entertain and amuse you,And therefore i feel the mass criticism they get is unfair,I can think of many worse activities that people do regarding entertainment,Like the current celebrity culture we have,I don't like this,But i don't go around criticising people who follow celebrities every move,But for some reason social networking websites seem to anger the people who don't use them,Hmm strange,But they are definitely.100% good in my opinion.

Hi hydenisama, Welcome to Mylot, I have been in mylot for eight months now and have never been to any other social netowrking sites that paid so I find my lot very good and I have made a lot of good friends here and have learnt a lot about people and culture, I have had a lot laughs and have cried to, given advce to people and had taken advice as well so I think it is good and it has benefited me a lot. I think social networking is very good, if you know the person. It's a way to socialize more and get to know and understand them more than you did before. Talking to people you've only met now and then, or even to someone else you don't know, can be socializing. As long as you don't give out your personal details or a photo of yourself. Most people would say to make up a name when your chatting. So if your real name is Kate you could change it to Abigail.

I would say it would depend on how you personally use social networking. Some people use it to sell products or services like freelancing etc and some people just seem to abuse it by trying to hurt people or putting nasty stuff on them. So I believe it can be both good and bad depending on the person doing the networking.

One of my favorite things about Myspace is that I have found a lot of my old friends on there. I found some relatives this way. I think social networking sites can be really great assets in keeping groups together. I do think that children using these sites is of concern though, and that they shouldn't be on public social networking sites. I think that there should be private networking sites that are easily set up by a family, community, school, or organization so that the benefits of such a site remain, but you don't get your kids associating with a lot of people you would never never let them near in real life, including people they actually know but you have restraining orders against.

i use myspace and i really like it. my brothers live in florida and it is a good way for me to keep in contact with them and to get pics of the kids. i like to spend the time writhing to them to see how things are going. my brothers were never very good at sending pics of the kids to me. now they just have to put them on their myspace pages and i can get them from there. now i have all the recent pics of the kids i want.

hello hydenisama, I am member of facebook, anc actually i love the site because , i found lots of my friends on this site whom i was seeing them for a long time, i caught up with them and keep on mailing each other. If there wasn't facebook, i am sure i would never be able to find them ever again, SO i can easily say that yes some of the social networking sites are useful for me. Have a great day

Well, it depends... It's okay to join those social networking sites as long as you won't get too much addicted with them to the extent that they would affect your job and other activities.

I think the social experiment is good, it does not necessarily mean society is going to capsize if they were bad. Evey new thing in history had a trial period, and things that were counterproductive usually fade away. Time will tell what the real implications are. People are wired to be attracted to healthy activity. Eventually I think these social networks will fade if they are not really productive to humans. Just my opinion.
