How do you take care of longer hair so it doesn't tangle?

My hair is at it's longest and I need a different shampoo or conditioner or something cause it's starting to tangle. I got a leave in conditioner and it helps some. Any other ideas?

I have a tip and I hope this will help you. I am growing my hair long too and it tangles every time after wash. However recently I have tried avoiding using a towel when drying up my hair. I just pat my hair with the towel and then let it dry naturally. My hair is more manageable after that. Provided that I also use conditioner, like you.

I had a discussion about this subject recently and someone suggested not wasting money on commercial detanglers. That I should put a smidge of conditioner in a spray bottle and fill with water. Also, you should be gentle when washing and conditioning and then when towel-drying.
Recently I have started using the Walmart version of Pantene Sleek and Smooth. It is amazing.

I have been using a kid's detangler lately because my niece's have longer hair and use this kind. The one in the green bottle with an orange sprayer. It smells like apples.
I also just got a wider tooth comb. I haven't tried it yet. I have heard that a cool rinse seals the cuticle so it won't tangle so easily. I just hate cold water on my head though.
Good luck to you!

I discovered this tip on myLot a while ago and have been singing its praises ever since. Forget the commercial detanglers and leave in conditioners, they pretty much suck. Mix water and your favourite conditioner in a spray bottle and shake it up then use it like a regular leave in conditioner. I use this on my four year old daughter's hair which is down to her bum. She doesn't complain nearly as much since I started using it. I also braid it at night so in the morning it is easy to brush out.
