The Stimulus Bill in a nutshell

I just got this email from a coworker and I had to post it on here because it shows just how ridiculous the stimulus plan is and why so many economists, politicians, and common people who actually have their heads on straight are so pissed off about it. Here goes: Stimulus explained Shortly after class, an economics student approaches his professor and says, "I don't understand this stimulus bill. Can you explain it to me?" The professor replied, "I don't have time to explain it at my office, but if you come over to my house on Saturday and help me with my weekend project, I'll be glad to explain it to you." The student agreed. At the agreed-upon time, the student showed up at the professor's house. The professor stated that the weekend project involved his backyard pool. They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you can." The student did as he was instructed. The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it." The student was naturally confused, but he did as he was told. The professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and began walking back to the deep end of the pool. The confused student asked, "Excuse me, but why are we doing this?" The professor matter-of-factly stated that he was trying to make the shallow end much deeper. The student didn't think the economics professor was serious, but figured he would find out the real story soon enough. However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep end, the student began to become worried that his economics professor had gone mad. The student finally replied, "All we're doing is wasting valuable time and effort on unproductive pursuits. Even worse, when this process is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all you'll really have accomplished is the destruction of what could have been truly productive action!" The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile, "Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill." I think that about sums it up.

Yes, it is indeed a useless and fruitless exercise, which however unfortunately in the end will not proof to bring us back to where we were before but even deeper into the hole. And unfortunately there are still many voices out there who condemn the nay-sayers and simply say we should give Obama a chance...

That is because those voices are ignorant of economics and historical evidence that shows that such "stimulus" plans don't work. If they understood the futility of such efforts they wouldn't be in favor of it.

It is much worse than that. If you actually read the bill, you will know that it has the potential to totally bring down the economy of our country. This is not just a short term "mistake". This is going to have reprocussions for generations to come. Our greatgrandchildren will be suffering because of this if someone does not have the guts to step in and stop it NOW! Shalom~Adoniah

I agree completely, Adoniah. It is very serious. I just think the email has a unique and simple way of explaining the futility of the stimulus bill. Thanks for your response.

I think that was a good way of summing it up! What a waste of time and resources huh?

Exactly. And I think more and more people are seeing through the lies as is obvious from the "tea party" protests that occurred in several cities around the country in the past week or so. And it is encouraging but it is gonna take many more people all over the country getting involved in order take back the power from the government and turn this country around. America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves - Abraham Lincoln
