how do you give

i am just curious as to how people go about giving. we set up an electronic draft that automatically comes out of our account each month... before we pay our bills so that the poor get paid first (there is ALWAYS someone who needs it more than we do). we bring food shelf items as an offering to church each week. we volunteer when we can and encourage our children to do the same. how do you give to the poor?
