Has anyone noticed a link between eating Shiitake Mushrooms & lower cholesterol?

We've grown shiitake mushrooms for years and I've certainly never made the connection between cholestrol and consumption of shiitake mushrooms. I was vaguely aware that there were a number of health benefits to eating them, particularly related to prevention of cancer. My family has a horrid history of cancers - and in the last ten years, I've been eating shiitakes and other mushrooms just in case.
Then I find out that shiitake might also help in cholesterol and.. I'm really kicking myself. We stop growing shiitakes in October and being cheap - I stop eating them then. I was always wondering why only some of my medical tests show elevated cholesterol. Going to have to check if the tests with bad results were those run in the spring.
Going to reschedule my medical for June this year - just to see what happens.
I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has experiences that would either corroberate or invalidate the claim that Shiitakes consumed with fatting foods can aid in lower the overall cholesterol levels? Thanks for reading this!
