What does "in the light of..." mean?

For example, "give an informed and well argued account of their own and others' values and commitment IN THE LIGHT OF different religious and other views on contemporary moral issues." Does that mean to give an account you must use different religious and other views on contemporary moral issues? I really find it is hard to understand. Would you like to share some ideas about this issue? It confused me for quite some time. Thank you for your kind answer.

In light of this subject, I believe I can answer your question. That statement is asking for a comparison of religious views versus other points of view. It will depend on who you ask or to whom you are referring. How will these opinions and views on contemporary issues differ amongst the many types of people across the globe. You will want to reiterate on topics that support their ways of life and culture. Why do they believe something should be done a certain way? I hope this is helfpul!
