What is the strangest thing your pet has eaten?

Hi everyone ! I was beach combing with my daughter 2 weeks ago . When we returned from the beach she put her bag of sea glass on the patio table. Our 7 month old German Shepherd dog got up there and was eating the glass! We found small shards of glass on the floor , so we know she had to have eaten some of it . We read on the internet that if you give the dog bread it should be okay. We gave her 4 slices and she was just fine! It made me think back of some of the strange things dogs will eat . Once my son was holding a popsickle and our lab took the whole popsickle and swallowed the whole thing , stick and all in one gulp! The dog was fine , and we never found the stick. What are some of the strangest things that your pet ever ate ?

Labs are funny. Mine was spiteful. She ate my underwear and the only reason I knew about that was she threw it up in front of me. She also ate rings. She must have had a soft stomach because she threw them up too. She ate wood. That mostly stayed down. Needless to say she had to go to another home. I kept her for twelve years as she did all this. LOL. My husband said he would probably go before the dog did. I still have him. LOL

I know this was put in the "dogs" section, but you said PET...so... My kitten eats pineapples. I know, weird right? Cats are carnivorous. They don't go around hunting wild pineapples. I'm not sure why he really likes pineapples (mobs me for 'em whenever I have 'em)...but he really does.

Hi xparanoiax ! dogs, cats, birds, all the better . I guess I should have listed this one under pets hu? A pineapple eating kitty ? That has to be one of the strangest ones yet! Hey at least it's alot healthier then eating glass or brass valves hu? I don't think dirt would hurt them either. I have dogs that eat sand. Thanks for the response xparanoiax!

HAHA you never found the popsicle stick! that's too funny wow, glass is pretty bad! i didn't know you should give them bread, but as i think about it, it makes pretty good sense as to why. i think the strangest thing my dog ate was our cat's poop! when my Jack Russell was a puppy she used to stick her head in the litter box and start eating the poo! it was disgusting, but we asked our vet and apparently it's common for puppies to do that with cat poo. he said cat poo has a lot of nutrients that are good for the dog and she'll grow out of it! and she did, but at least it was less poop for us to clean!

Hi cndn420 , We had 2 cats and 2 dogs , and I had to keep our litter box up on the washing machine . Both our dogs would eat cat poo . They think its the best thing in the world! and would keep going back for more, ewwww!! Thanks for the response cndn , and have a great night !

My Chesapeake has eaten everything you can imagine. Socks, underwear, shoes, tables, blankets, pillows ... I think it is a retriever thing to just chew, chew, chew. He rips all the green fuzz off of tennis balls, then bites the ball in half, and leaves the two halves for the Boxer to play with. When he was about a year old he ate a Bic lighter. He has eaten money, too. That one was an expensive habit to break!

Hi cortypants, a Bic lighter? that's as bad as broken glass ! I'm glad mine don't eat money . I would be tempted to pick them up and turn them upside down and try to shake my money out of them . thanks for the response.. lets hope our furry friends stay safe !

Yep, a lighter. That was scary, we ran him to the vet, they did all kinds of tests, hundreds of dollars, besides yelling at me for 'allowing him to eat it' ... like I fed it to him!! Jeez. But he was fine, they didn't even give him any meds. Luckily he is one of those dogs that has an iron stomach.

my puchie - he is so very sweet and lovely dog;)
Hi beachstarz, My lil' puchie he ate marble before. But thank's God because when he make poo with the marble also. Since that we threw all our marbles. Maybe that time he was enjoyed to play and bite it until he swallowed. And he love to ate Ice cream, fruits, Ice. SPecialy if your going to open ref, he was so happy because he knows what's inside. But if you give him a dog food, he don't like it.

I have a 6 months old yellow lab, he likes to eat the little rocks on the back yard... When he was little, he goes straight to the rocks everytime I let him out do business. My husband and I wondered if it is because the rocks are like the dog food and he doesn't chew at all when he eats, so he thinks the rocks are his food?... I don't know :-p Fortunately, we did not need to bring him to the vet and take out the rocks - he finally dumbed them out...

Hey beachstarz, I was just reading about what your baby dog eats. Well, do I have a story for you! Back in the day when we lived in the states we had a 100 pound shepherd/wolf mix. One day my husband went down to the basement to replace a brass valve that had gone bad. When he was done with the project and cleaning up the mess he couldn't find the old valve,so figured he must have already thrown it out. the next day he found the valve,in the middle of a pile of Wolf's poop !!!! That had to be FUN to pass !! Sorry we don,t have a picture of Wolf, it didn't make it to Mexico.

Hi beachstarz , the most incredible thing my dog ate was , all the red ornamental flowers i grew last summer on my patio , she did not touch them untill they were lovely and mature, maybe because of the smell or i dont know what but she ate them all, she was sick for a day but as i gave her charcoal tablets it did dissintoxicate her , by the way she is only 2 years old , and she also chews slippers shoes and anything she can get hold of, she is my little household disaster , but i love her, greetings bignik

My dog is a pug, he always looks like hungry and asking for food. Whenever he feels not okay, hungry, stomach problem, or angry with me, he will start search the house for plastic bag. And the plastic bag always makes him want more. Fortunately, he can poop the plastic bag out a day later, and it seems doing no harm to him.

I have a shitzu named Bubba. He is happy go-lucky as anything, and with this also a little on the hollow headed side. One day I came back from school to find him with his head buried in one of my drawers. I call the drawer he was in my junk drawer, because that is my place for keeping all my random crap. When I looked inside the drawer, I found my dog munching on triple A batteries. I had a package that was open a little bit, and he tore it right open! One battery was missing, one was extremely chewed up. A couple days later, there were visible pieces of metal in his poop. Ugh!

Harley has eaten a glove before. She's one of those dogs who acts like an angel when you're watching her, and when she notices no one's watching, the sneaky little brat will strike. We were wondering why there was a really disgusting-looking glove on the floor, how she managed it... I wish I knew.
