Hi once again from bignik , how you can save in electric bill , it really is a tip that works , what i do or did was to change all my light bulbs to energy saving bulbs , and the next was to have no appliances on standby , like TV , micro wave oven or other like dvd or anything that absorbs passive current , all unplugged, and only when i have to use .
I started to save daily about 12 to 22 watts daily wich means about 365 x 20 = 7300 watts for only 3 to 4 appliances , and if you have more it will cost even double or more , at the end of a year it does cost , and you can save a good 40 to 100 dollars ,
What do you do to save , or are you not saving,
think about and start saving , its for your own pocket , lots of greetings bignik
hope that this tip may help.

Changing the air filters in your central heat or air conditioner cuts down energy use. If you have window type air conditioners, their filters should be kept clean as well as the condenser coils in order to save energy.

I turn off lights when not in use and use them conservatively. I also change air filters in the furnace regularly; use a toaster oven when I can instead of the regular oven; close off drafts; wear more clothes and turn the thermostat much lower.

I have purchased all the new lightbulbs. I also open the curtains on sunny days to use sunlight rather than turning lights on. Anything not in use is unplugged. I have a clothes line strung in the basement in which I use to hang jeans and towels - just fluff them quick in the dryer. Keep the freezers full as they run less. Set our furnace at 65* so it is not constantly running and trying to keep up. I also try to do large amounts of baking on a cold day as the oven warms up the house.

I love saving and I have signed up with energy company to keep my bill low. It calls summer saving, so they install something on my AC and they will give a big discount after that. Also, I dont really use much energy in the house and I pay only $20-$50 a month, depend how much I use and depend on the weather too.

Hi smileonstar , i think that you do pay very little , as i would pay about 80 to 120 euros every 2 months , and during the winter a little more , and also i have to buy gas for the stove which costs another 16 to 24 euros a month, thanks for your response , greetings bignik

I have a habit of unplugging everything when I'm not using it. When I go out to work or whatever I only leave the fridge and my cordless plugged in. I have no gas here so I use electric burners for cooking and no oven. When I first moved into this place two years ago I was terrified my bill would be high but .... it's so low that the electric company only make me pay every four months. Alternate bills arrive and it says 'nothing to pay, it will be added to your next bill'

No idea what gas costs here as I have no use for it.
If I tell you a secret promise not faint?
My electric bill is about €15 a month

Hi mysdianait , as i see you really dont use much energy , but the trouble is that it still costs , where i live i think that we pay more than on the mainland , and even for gas we pay for a 10 liter gas container 24 to 25 euros which is an absolute theft , gas costs 0,60 cents a liter , and even if we have to pay for the tranport and earnings to those who sell , it surely should not exceed 200 percent , greetings bignik

We don't just save because it saves money but we save because it saves the environment too. We turn off things when not in use, and unplug things when not in use. We also try to use daylight instead of light when ever possible. On rainy days we don't do so though, we just use the light so as to not strain our eyes.

I know in our home that we tend to do a lot of the same things, but we also have the benefit of have a lot of windows in our home, which helps a lot too as we can open all the blinds to let the sunlight in and avoid unnecessary electricity going to waste by turning on lights that really aren't needed.
Also, during times where we are away from the house for extended periods of time, such as on vacation, we like to leave some lights on so it at least appears that someone is home, but we keep them plugged into timers so they turn themselves on and off. We also do the same thing during the holidays for our Christmas lights and decorations.
For those who have heat that is electric, such as we do, we keep plastic on our windows year around also which helps not only to save on the heating bill during the winter months, but as well as the AC bill during the summer.

Hi, I've changed my bulbs too and noticed a drop in the bill. I also try to unplug stuff, but I don't unplug everything so I think I'll try to be a bit more diligent about that. I've turned the thermostat up ( I live in Fla) a couple of degrees, and I'll handwash personal items and air dry them instead of using the washing machine and dryer. Keep the tips coming!

I unplug chargers (for cell phones, cameras, etc) when they are not in use. These appliances suck energy when they are plugged into the wall, even if they are not charging the appliance they belong to!
Also, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, microwaves, all use energy, even when the appliance is not in use. Anything that has a light that stays on when the appliance is "off" is sucking energy. For example, a TV constantly uses a small amount of energy when plugged in, so that it is ready to go when you press the button to turn it on. The reason for this is that if we were to fully shut down the power supply each time we used our TV (ie, unplug it), it would take much longer for the TV picture and sound to turn on each time we wanted to use it. When possible, I unplug items like this (usually just my coffee maker, VCR and DVD player... I keep my TV and microwave plugged in!) to cut back a bit on my bill and energy usage.

I don't know if it really helps but it is just beocming my habit to do it. When I finish using something like all the lights, fan and some unnecessary electronic stuff, I just turn them all off because some people just leave it on for no reason. I think it helps saving averagely but not much.

I do not turn on my lights unless I really have to use them. I also wash in cold water, unless my kids have been sick and then I use hot to get rid of more germs. I haven't done the standby thing, but maybe I will look into it. Just using cold water when washing clothes saved me about 40 or 50 dollars on one of my monthly bills. Hanging up clothes to dry is a good thing to do also. Dryers suck out all kinds of electricity to get those clothes dry.

I do this strategy too,cut off what we don't need is a must for saving. Of course it won't be similar for different person due to their various needs. But commonly, reducing the nominal of "watts" will be useful, turn off or unplugged the cable of electronic equipment we don't need would be great too. Just try it and it won't be disappointing.

Saving on numerous small appliances is a good deal, but I think that to save really a lot of money in the long run is to spend some money on, lets say, insulating your house, buying expensive but economic bulbs, or buying 'green' appliances like cellphone chargers that generate energy from sun..there are lots of things like that one you can buy if you look for them. It all requires a certain budget but one will definitely profit from it all in a year's time.
Actually, I am subscribed to a nice newsletter http://idealbite.com/. They send lots of 'green' tips and advices, including ways to save energy.

I and my husband are saving electricity too so that our electric bill will go down. Before we are using vacuum cleaner but now I am only using broom and wipe the floor with wet towel. With regard to the use of refrigerator I defrost the fridge every time the ice get thick in the freezer until it dissolves. In that case we are saving energy while foods inside are still cold because of the excess coldness from the ice. With our electric bulbs we only turn them on when eating dinner because we can watch television even the lights are off. Besides it is better because we feel like we are in cinemas or theater. In using the light of the bathroom, when the sun is so hot and the rays are penetrating inside the house the bathroom is sometime clear. So I no longer turn the lights on when using the bathroom to take a bath. Besides I only take a bath for not more than 15 minutes. And lastly I do iron my husband's clothes ones a week so that I can save energy from the use of the flat iron. Those are the few yet effective ways I do to save energy.

I agree with you, the ultimate solution is to use energy saving bulbs. Recently the plants are selling at low prices with subsidies from the government. We bought our limited number.
Turn off appliance is another way, the accumulated power for all on standby is huge in long run.
Set air conditioner in reasonable temperature range.
Use sunshine instead of drier.
Do not iron for home leisure wears, etc.
