I could recall my mom saying that we'd be spoon fed till we were about 7years old. I'm just surprised to see my nephew now, he's less than 2 and he can feed himself using fork and spoon just fine.
Is he early? or is it just usual this generation?

It's really funny because he can eat by himself but can't talk yet. He only know dada and some vernacular, plus of course 'Tita', that's how he calls me, meaning 'aunt'.
They're quite jealous because he calls me and he doesn't call anyone else. hahahaha.. I guess the bribery (of goodies) fixed 'em up great. hahahahaa

Spoon-fed can mean more than one thing. The first thing I though of when I read this was definition number 2 below.
1. To feed (another) with a spoon.
2. To treat (another) in a way that discourages independent thought or action, as by overindulgence.
3.
A. To provide (another) with knowledge or information in an oversimplified way.
B. To provide (knowledge or information) in an oversimplified way.
To answer your question though, I do not think it is early. My daughter just turned 2 last month and she has been using a spoon and a fork on her own for at least 6 months.
