According to Wikipedia the practice of assigning colors according to gender started in th 1920's. From the 1920's - the 1940's pink was considered appropriate for boys because the color pink is related to red which was considered a masculine color and the color blue was considered appropriate for girls because it was a more subtle or soft color. Somewhere between 1940 and now the colors have been exchanged. Wikipedia also says that pink seems to be a favorite color of woman because "of a preference for reddish things like ripe fruits and healthy faces. This suggestion, however, has en criticized as unsubstantiated."
I myself prefer the color pink over any other color. I have a lot of pink tops and try to work the color into home decorating schemes when I can. Next to pink I tend to favor a peach color.

I love pink, it is my favorite color and most of my blouses and dresses are pink. This color is associated with girls because it is very feminine, it also represents innocence, purity and modesty, all girls are expected to be pure, innocent and modest. Pink symbolizes womanhood too.
