Which is better? DSL or Broadband?

I'm in a dilemma right now. I've been using DSL connection for 2 years now. I always have the problem of whenever our phone line is dead, the internet is also dead. Plus, during rainy days, the phone line is always dead. Which mean, the internet is either fluctuating or dead also. It also frustrates me whenever the connection speed is not as the service provider promotes it to be. I want to know if... I should just stick to DSL or I should change it to broadband? Any advise? Is broadband the same as cable internet? If not, are you aware of cable internet? Is it faster? Care to share the pros and cons of DSL and Broadband connections, if any?
