Never doubt for one moment that beliefs are very powerful. We have in the past and still continue to fight wars over them. We build monuments to them and medicine, psychology and political systems are built on them. But remember this, sometimes they aren't true,we just think they are.Sometimes we believe in fairy tales. There are thousands of different belief systems in the world and some are no doubt fairy tales, but the fact that they are doesn't change a thing, the power is in the belief. Think about it.

When we believe something we most likely believe with our whole hearts. right and wrong is perception. i think the power of knowing something to be true for you, should be focused on things that are positive for you and the lives of those around you. focusing on someone else being right or wrong, or what is not going your way is not going to get you any where. focus on the wonderful things in your life and you will get more wonderful things. That's the true power of belief

i agree with you,,, belief is just a belief ,it's neither a fact nor false..there are some beliefs where people believe them blindly without knowing the reasons behind that belief, thinking that this belief will bring good to their life..this is the peoples belief..
and i think knowing the facts or reasons behind the beliefs is just interesting and exciting and makes the belief true and it increases confidence in you..

I totally agree with this phrase...
If you dont believe you can do something then you wont be able to work, walk, talk, dance, smile etc... this is one of the reasons why each of us live an interesting lives. Some people believe they can do something that seems extra ordinary and impossible or solve a hard problem and when they get through with it... You will clearly see that nothing is impossible when you believe.

i think that we think or how we view life really affects our destiny and our future. so i tend to change my thought pattern so that i will not live or have self fulfilled prophecy. cause i don't want to be disappointed over my life just because of false belief. sometimes or many times i have many negative thoughts about life and wrong perception about things and myself. and that affected me a lot. wish that i have not been like this before so that i could have better life now.

Yes I beleive belife have power .But I rather to believe myself..
There have been many great man in history .many of them were very poor in boyhood ,and no uncles, aunts or friends to help them .Their schooling was not enough .But they saw how it was set to work with all their mind to know something and finally work their own way up to fame..
"Depend on youself "is what nature says to every man .Parents can help you teachers can help you .Others still can help you .But all these only help you to help yourself.

The Power is in the belief! That is very true. Have you ever wondered why one person can smoke like a chimney all his/her life and die of old age at 102? And the next person can smoke for 20 years and die of lung cancer? The Power is in the belief!
If you truly (deep in your heart and mind) believe smoking will not hurt you, it probably won't. But, if every time you light up, you're thinking deep in your heart and mind," I wish I didn't smoke, I'm worried I'll get cancer." You're gonna get it sure as shootin. The Power is in the Belief!

Hi Pose123! I do agree with you that we all have different beliefs that we hold closely in our hearts and we have seen a lot of people who would really die in the name of their beliefs. It is sad when we get to destroy one another because we don't share the same beliefs. I wonder what kind of thinking these people have if they think that killing, discriminating or hurting other people who don't have the same belief as theirs will make them better people and could earn them a ticket to paradise. It is sad when we get to be victims of our own beliefs.
Take care and blessings to you!

It's interesting the way you have chosen to word that some belief systems are no doubt fairy tales. I'll have to be the one to ask, and what might those systems be? If they are real to the people who believe them who are we to claim them to be fairy tales?
In terms of the power of the mind and belief, yes I agree they are very powerful. The mind is an amazing tool. As Deepak Chopra once said "We're our own best medicine chest". We have the ability to heal ourselves just with the power of our mind. (And lots of practice of course lol).
Wonderful discussion starter, Pose.

Hi Anora, Thank you for commenting and I'm pleased that you asked,"if they are real to the people who believe them who are we to claim them to be fairy tales"? I had not thought of it in that light and now that I've given it some thought I can see your point. I was thinking of some of the stories that had been written down, and questioning whether or not such a thing had ever happened. I am a great fan of Deepak Chopra and would certainly agree with the quote. Blessings.

Belief guides everyone of us, wether you know it or agree with it or not. As you said, we fight wars and build monuments, but my only fear is that some people got such strong opinions and can mess with other people belief and other values. But the main point is what you said, but being careful not cross other people's limits.

I agree fully. Believing in one thing can completely shape the way that we perceive the world around us. Somewhere in the world there is an atheist and a christian viewing the sunrise at the same time and they both might have completely different thoughts on it. It doesn't change the reality of what the sunrise is, but perception being as powerful as it is it just might change that reality for that person. We all have the power to alter our perception of reality. It makes one wonder what reality really is.
Obviously there are plenty of things that everyone can agree on as real truths. We can all agree that the sun creates warmth with it's presence and cold in it's absense, and we can all distinguish between hot and cold things, but try this: Have a friend close their eyes and tell them that you are going to hand them a hot potato and instead hand them something frozen and see what their reaction is. At least for a second or two they will actually believe that the thing they are holding is hot and burning their skin when in fact it is the opposite.

When I'm small,I am always begging my parents to read stories especially fairy-tales before I went to sleep.Because in the stories, there is beautiful world and people of different kinds. The world is simplified in the story. However,it doesn't matter. The stories are windows through which we observe the outside world. We want to be a good person because we have the belief that the bad person is to be penalized. The belief will influence all my life.
