Is comics an effective medium for education?

I have been wondering if comics is a valid educational tool or medium, and I'd like to know what you guys think of this. Do you think comics should be given the same attention textual books are getting?

yeah i do think it all depends on what kind of comics is used. If the comics is really intended for educational purposes then that's great. But usually comics are more entertaining if used for education than just books or plain text. =)
