Some multivitamins claim that they give more energy, gives long life, and help prevent cancer and heart attacks. But I've red in an article before that this claims are not really true, well, they aren't proven to be true. Vitamins does not give energy, it is protein that gives energy. And in a recent study involving 1500 people, the number of people who takes multivitamins regularly who died of heart attacks and cancer is almost the same with the number of deaths of those who don't take multivitamins and died of the same sickness. Do you agree on this? Especially to those who take multivitamins regularly.

Multivitamins are not a magic potion and they are not needed by everybody. They are used in special circumstances even by me, a doctor. Generally they are needed by people who had a long illness/diabetes/elderly people etc.

You are very right, they can even harm you if taken in large quantities.

My understanding of it is that our bodies cannot process multi-vitamins as well as if they are in their natural form. It is better to just eat a well balanced diet of vitamin rich foods like fruits and vegetables as well as your meat and dairy for calcium, protein etc.

I agree with you sagehill. Vitamins should be acquired naturally by eating foods that contain these vitamins and not by swallowing them directly.

Everyone should be taking multi-vitamins because we don't get the proper nutrition we need because of unhealthy eating, or the deterioration of nutrients in our food. My 15 year old daughter was always tired, had a headache every day, and basically felt lousy. I realized that since she was now menstruating she was probably lacking in iron. I went to a health food store looking for vitamins for teens. I was told that she can take an adult vitamin for women. The change in my daughter was immediate. She still gets the occasional headache and get tired every once in awhile (it would help if she would go to bed at a decent hour), but overall adding a multi-vitamin to her daily regimen helped her to feel better. I don't believe that vitamins, or lack of vitamins, cause cancer or other illnesses. I believe stress causes most illnesses. We have to learn to relax and keep positive. Negative thinking and stress will kill you.
