I have been on bed rest since valentines day and i is driving me crazy. I cant clean I cant do anything . I am waiting for surgey. I dont know if it is because it is winer or if it is the stuck in the house blues. Do you ever get the blues when you dont get out ?

depression is overloading the mind with multiple thoughts or pressures, that the mind or brain cannot able to withstand..so we burst out in depression and tension.

Hi mkmissey76 - I sure do and I hope you feel better soon. Sorry you are have to have surgery soon. I do think that you are also correct in saying that winter time doesn't help the situation either. It is cloudy and a bit chilly outside here today and I know I feel much better mentally when the sun is out. Sometimes I think I'd feel better with light therapy... you know, those lamps you can buy to sit under. I'm sure I can't afford one though. I know how it is to be stuck in the house with medical problems... that is me. But, thankfully I am not on bed rest... just have to rest a lot during the day and can't do too much either. I spend a lot of time sitting here on the computer typing away but it gets really boring and old after awhile. Why do you have to have surgery, if I may ask? The problem I'm having is I might have multiple sclerosis and my legs are always weak and hurt a lot. The more active I am the more I suffer for it later. I know I need to take my own advice but try to play some upbeat music during the day or start a project that you can do while on bed rest. That way at least you might feel like you are accomplishing something. Do you have any pets? Sometimes the extra company helps... even if they aren't human! lol Take care mkmissey76 and us myLotters are always here to listen if you ever need us. :) Jill

Being cooped up can be very difficult to deal with. Is it possible for you to sit outdoors for a little while each day? If so, get some fresh air and sun. If not, open the window for a little while each day. Read some good books. Watch a comedy. When you sleep, allow your mind to set you free. Dream of warm beaches and gentle waves. When dreaming, walk on a beach. Also, music can be helpful. Call some friends and invite them to come visit you. I hope your surgery goes well. Will you be having surgery soon??

Hello There!I can tell you that 7 years ago I injured my back and ended up finding I have a buldging disc. At that time, I became very depressed. I couldn't stand long, sit long, and basically I could only lay on the floor and in only 2 different positions. It was awful. After visiting my chiropractor for months and taking pain killers and anti-inflamatories, I did start to get better. I finally had 2 epidural injections which allowed me relief and at this time I began taking walks. I can tell you that, yes it is very depressing to have your active self suddenly shut down. And yes, some people do change with the seasonal changes. I became very active in reading as it kept my mind busy. I read all sorts of self-help books. I focused on getting well. What kind of surgery are you having?Terri
