What do you do when your dog beg you for food?

when you are eating at the table? MY puppy doesn't usually do it and I don't want him to learn it from the other dogs... I have a friend's dog like to beg for cookies a lot so she always look at people, last time I brought him to visit that dog, then he started to learn it from her.
I say NO and ignore him when he begs for food, do you have any stronger ideas for that?

Hi Mermaidivy,
do as my daughter taught me...send to his or her space or tell doggie to lay down. This is for their own well being. We have two giant size Pits, a red nose and a blue nose...if you let them these dogs will eat anything...but to be a responsible owner you must not give in to what they ask for...feed them their food and some treats during the day or evening and that's that. Our red nose is on a diet...the vet told my daughter that she must be on a diet or she will not survive...All doggies have a certain weight that they must be...don't deviate from this if you want to enjoy your doggies for years to come. I know it's hard...there are many times when I want to give them because they stare...but I don't because I know it'll affect their health.
Good luck.

Personally, I love to see my dog's expression to beg for food, it looks so cute.
Luckily, my dog doesn't beg for food, I mean he doesn't jump to my knees or stand to ask for my food. It is not a big deal that he looks at me and beg for food, unless he makes a noise or reach out his paw to you for food.
If my dog is jumping to beg for food. I think I would hold a rolled poster to make him frightened. You don't need to beat him indeed, or you may just hit the floor besides his paws. It is how I train my dog.

but some dogs just beg for no reason, they just want food and more.

After you say NO, spray the dog on the nose with a water bottle. I do this with my mother-in-law's dogs and they have learned quickly not to sit at the table when people are eating. I would also not bring him to visit any dogs that display this behavior, dogs tend to think if another dog does something, its okay to do it, too.

yeah they learn very fast when they see other dogs display it. I tried to spray the air on his nose but he thinks I am playing with him...
