Did social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace cause self esteem problems

The question is did the invention of Myspace and Facebook and rapid friend adding cause some people to feel bad about themselves because of lack of friends, comments, whatever. There are those super users or whatever who have tons of friends and comments everywhere. I can only suspect that some people might feel kidna down when they don't have the same type of traffic on theirs.

I doubt it. While it might be cool to brag and say you have 10000 friends on myspace, at the end of the day, it's the person who knows everybody on his friend's list that is getting the most out of myspace. Bands, random people, etc. Aside from updates, serve no purpose. What if you have a thousand friends? Do you know these people? I don't think it caused self esteem problems.
