preparing for an interview....

How will you prepare a job interview? are you the person who will research about the company and know their mission and vision? or are you the type of person who will just prepare yourself, your clothes and attend the interview without knowing about the company and their businesses? Just go with the flow? In the past, I don't care a lot about knowing the Company but after working several years, I learned that it is vital to have knowledge about them during the interview and it makes us having more edge to the rest of the applicants!

No I have not really worried about information on the job, but then again for the most part I've had to watch videos about the place of employment after applying and getting the job. Although I know that that is different from what you are asking. I am the type of person to make sure that my appearance and attitude is prepared, but not necessarily and not so much information about the company. I will tell of my qualifications and why I feel they should hire me, but the latter part ofcourse only if they ask. I think some jobs even , don't necessarily require or are impressed by your knowledge of the company although even so it depends on the boss. For instance, you can apply for a pharmacy in which the boss is very impressed by a applicants knowledge of the company, but then even so you could apply for a factory and the boss not care that you know the date the company was founded, the founder, and what they originally made in their factory. It's all about attitude really.

Hi SomeCowgirl, You have a valid point also. Not all the interviewee will ask about the history etc of their company and it will always base on the qualification and skills a person can contribute to their company. I've been in 3 different Companies before and so far, only 1 of those asked me about their mission which that time I have no idea with...LOL!

I can understand though why you would want to know of the company so as to be prepared since that one time I'm sure it came unexpectedly!

Hi Che, That is correct!! researching about the company's mission and vision, is very important and knowing what they are looking for, would help you a lot to prepare. It is frustrating though when you are preparing and researching and yet you will not be hired. ahahaha.. That is why I don;t care now about applying... Good luck..

hi there! whenever i have a job interview, i always visit the company's website and make sure i get oriented with their products and services...then i also research their company background, how long have they been doing business and how well they do their business...the reason why i do that is because first, i dont want to be embarrassed in my interview going there without a clue of the company that i am applying for, second, i dont want to work in a company that is not reputable enough to work with..because there are a lot of scam businesses out there already..so we all have to be careful..

Well, especially with the Economic situations we here are facing these days, and knowing that every employer is now looking for the Best candidate for any position there is out there, I know that if you can go into a job interview prepared and act like you know what you are doing more than being Scared that in turn gives you a Great opportunity to be a hireable candidate for sure. When I go in for an interview somewhere, unless it is a Business I am quite familiar with, and feel I have some Good experience etc. to show to them, I will always read up and find out anything I can about the company in advance. If I know someone who works there for that company, that is often a plus as they can share things with me as well. But I find the more I know the less scared I am, and even if I end up being turned down for the job, I at least gave it my all.

HI KrauseHome, I agree with you that when we know less, it makes us feel scared and less confident. It is ideal really to have something in our mind about what they are doing and about the Company...

Hi che, I’m rather nervous and really worried a day before the interview and I couldn’t concentrate myself to do any preparation for the interview. So I always would try my best to get everything ready a bit earlier. If I could I would rather to get more information about the company so I would have more confidence as well as more knowledge to tell when having interview. Yeah the clothes and appearance, and the way of talking would make us to look decent or not during the interview. So we have to take great care of these as well before the interview. I think the most important thing is to keep ourselves relaxed and smiling all the time. Happy posting and good luck.

HI lkbooi, You have a great idea there...being relaxed will help us feel comfortable and have presence of mind and we need to be smiling too and that will always capture the attention of the interviewer... like you, I also want to prepare ahead of time and counting the hours of interview makes me feel a lot of butterflies are flying in my tummy! LOL!

I think I would do some research on the company first off...then i would dress nicely , try to look nice & make a good first impression.I would also take along a resume to let them know about me & my experience...

I try to find out something about the Company and what kind of business they are dealing in. I also try to find out what work they exactly expect me to do. That way I am a bit prepared about the questions I am likely to be asked and would know what replies they want. Ofcourse our clothes are also important and we have to dress accordingly. For the rest I just go with the flow.

This is something difficult for me. You know che, I can't remember I went to any of the companies in the metro to apply or for an interview. I was a kinda shy in my younger age that I was afraid to apply for a job or just for an on-the-job training. I remember, we group applied with my classmates-friends for the OJT during our TUP days. When I was called to appear with the Regional chief of this office and told to visit the City chief, I just wore my casual attire. I wasn't sure of what or whom I was going to meet, frankly. And I was so shy then...

Hi neildc, Really? Not obvious in virtual..LOL! I mean you sounds so confident and very brave this time, maybe experiences and life taught you a lot... I was shy also when I was in High School but in my College years, I learned to have a thick face...LOL! Thanks for dropping!

I try to know more about the company as I could but not right down to every detail. I make sure to be a bit prepared but not too much. I'd like to go to an interview and just try to be myself but also will prepare myself for the worst-case scenario. Good luck on the job, che.

hi checapricorn, First take time to understand how you want to project yourself during the interview.mainly interviews are used as a tool of judging whether you fit the job as well as the company.the resume has been checked for typos and is structured in a way that makes it easy to read.highlight your skills and experience relevant to the job.everything you say or do makes an impression whether positive or negative.be it the way you sit, the way you talk and your choice of clothing, everything is important.be prepare about the company and work.an interview is like a sales pitch in many ways.so ensure that you present yourself well.

You are right, it will give an edge if you know about the company. It has been quite awhile since I have gone to an interview. Some rules and strategies do not change, though.

Honestly speaking... i have never researched for the company i applied for in the past... since during those times... the internet was not yet that popular... Evertime i go to an interview... i always tell myself to relax... be charming... and be smart... be honest in answering questions and to be admit when i do not know what the person interviewing me is saying... that is better than acting like i am a know it all... Good luck...

Hello wondericequeen, I will always make sure that I am fully prepared when I need to attend an interview. I will check the company background and read a little bit information about the organization. I make sure I will have a proper clothes to wear and prepare everything before hand as a last minute preparation always not as good as you expect yourself to be...

I am the type who researches a little, it pays to know more about the company you are going to work with. Plus, it helps you see if you do belong and could be happy in the company. Then I seek for those who have worked there and ask for comments, the good and the bad things about the company - it's not only you who needs to go work there, they need to satisfy something from your needs too. Next, I'd choose a good outfit, that would best fit me in that company. Doesn't need to be expensive, but rather, trying to see if I could merge with what they expect as an employee there. I do ask around too so as not to be overdressed. Then goes to the reviewing on the usual questions. Have a great smile, without being cocky. And enjoy the interview. If they'll hire you, then it's good.. If they don't, you'll never be happy there anyways! (a good deal of sourgraping could do you good in order to keep the confidence at the maximum level hahaha). As always, you'll have this feeling if you go for interviews and looking for jobs even when you don't need it. My MBA classmate told me that before, and it stuck by me. It's a great advice by the way, because you'll never have to worry about job interviews anymore.

hi che, i can not be at help for you when it somes to things like this. as you know i am in a band and we get our jobs not by interview or by sending resumes. we get our jobs by sending videos or by showing what we got live. of course we prepare clothes too but that would be mainly talked about by the whole group not just a single mind brainstorming. but i agree with you that you have to know the background of the company you are going to apply so you will have enough knowledge of what they are and what you need. goodluck if ever you have another interview.
