I just got a scam in the mail. I opened a letter addressed to my husband's Psudonym. I thought maybe he had sold another story. However, it turned out to be a scam. He is pretty sure his name got on the list while filling out surveys.
Anyway, the letter said that I had won a lottery in Canada, and that I should deposit the enclosed check, keep $1000, and send the rest back to them for taxes, then they would send me the rest of the 285,000 I had won.
I looked it up online and found four reporting sites saying it was a scam. One lady said she had deposited the check, then sent the money, and the check was cancelled, so now she owes all of the money to her bank.
If it sound too good to be true, it probably is....bummer.

I have heard about these scams as well. I get several emails a month on them. I also get those wonderful emails that tell me to verify my bank account information, which is a joke, because half of the emails I get are from banks, I don't even bank at. You would think these people that think of these scams would do there homework a little better.

We got something like that a few years ago. Only, I think it was from an "Australian Lottery" or something. I forget what it was from. Anyway, I really wanted it to be for real, but I ended up talking to a few people about it before I did anything. I posted a thread about it on the message board forumn at eBay, and they were telling me that it was a scam.
I'm glad I didn't cash it. We would have been in hock way past our ears. It would make the debt we have now, look like pocket change.
