Does good appearance will be helpful in work?

It seams that good appearance will help one to make friends and start communication easier. Also the employer may take on the one in good appearance out of several hundred candidates.
What do you think about that?

Yeah, appearance in the sense that you should be neat enough, dress properly, and try to have proper hygiene. Specially if you're working with people, you should at least look your best everyday.
You wouldn't want to belong to a team of people who are sloppy and have no sense of proper hygiene would you?
