My six year old son is in first grade. He was doing well in the beginning of the year he is beginning to have problems in reading and math as the year is progressing. The teacher says he is very unfocused and always fooling around. His behavior at home is also becoming like that also. He is always fooling around and very uninterested in his school work. He is the youngest of three boys the other two are the complete opposite. I have always been opposed to medication at such a young age. What are my options?

consult a pediatrician first specializing child behavior,so they can determine if your child has a problem or just normal .other kids tend to be naughty than others because of the environment or exposure.

ADD is overdiagnosed. It's very natural for young boys to become that way. Just try to teach him to focus. Play some brain games with him. Have some home lessons about topics he likes (so that if he enjoys learning at home, he'll have an easier time learning the boring stuff at school). If he's about 6, lessons on Dinosaurs or Robots might interest him.
