How do you like your pizza?

As a man born and raised in Chicago, I am a bit of a pizza snob. I don't really act like a snob, but I certainly think about pizza in a rather snobby way (just trying to be honest with myself). I prefer deep dish, obviously, when at home and when away I prefer to just think warmly of pizza I could be eating if I was only in Chicago again. But this got me thinking, I'm only this way because of the city I grew and the standards there. So what are your favorite kinds of pizza? Deep dish or thin crust? Those square ones, sometimes without cheese? Pizza with cheese in the crust? Also, what are you favorite toppings? Do you like the basics (pepperoni, sausage, plain cheese) like me? Or are you a fan of the Hawaiian pizza with pineapple on it? How do you like your pizza?

Oh my gosh! I think the best pizza*out* is California Pizza Kitchen. I get the BLT pizza with avocado. Yum! If you like B.L.T sandwiches, you'll love their pizza. It has Applewood smoked bacon and mozzarella cheese, hearth baked, then topped with fresh sliced Roma tomatoes and chilled chopped lettuce tossed in mayo. It's soooooooo completely delicious. I know it's not traditional, but it's to die for. *drool*

I could possibly eat it by itself with a spoon, or spork :p

Traditional or not it sounds really good. I've had CPK's BLT pizza and I did indeed enjoy it. I don't remember avocado being on it, and I honestly never even thought to put avocado on any pizza, but that is an intriguing idea. Thanks for the post and the wild food combo.

I think the greatest thing about living in Chicago is the fact that there are so many little local places you can get really good pizza from. I think that's really what makes us true pizza snobs. Now I won't say that i have never had Domino's or Pizza Hut, but as far as the best pizza, they really don't hold a candle. (You sound like your not in the area anymore, but you know you can have Giordano's shipped to you.)
Anyway, our favorite combo is, ground beef, green pepper and onion, or what I affectionately call the heartburn special.

Ground beef and green pepper is one my top favorites too. As for living situation, I was in NYC for a few years, but moved back in 2008. The day I return from any extended trip I always order a deep dish from my favorite place, and you can believe I had an extra slice the day I moved back from NY! Thanks for your thoughts!

I like my pizza with a thicker crust. i guess i like more bread with it than the thin, crispy type crusts. in regards to toppings, i like lots of cheese, peperoni, bacon (its a canadian thang) and sausage. i am not a big fan of mushrooms nor green peppers.

You're more of a meat on your pizza type of person, I dig it. And thicker crusts are my personal favorite as well, with a nice doughy part on the pizza side. Thanks for the post.

Hey, a fellow citizen of the Second City, very nice. What kinds of pizza do you get at Home Run Inn, by which I mean deep dish or regular?

Thick crust, love to hear it! I must say your topping choices are intriguing, I may have to try them soon. (I've been making and ordering pizza too much since I started this discussion, but can you blame me? All these ideas!) Thanks for yours!

when ordering from store i love my pizza to have a thick soft crust with cheese cooked on, it has to have pepperonis but they either got to be huge or chopped up, if it's possible i like to order an inside out pizza with the cheese under the red sauce, with this kind toppings aren't necessary but it has to have a thin crust for this kind to be prefect. when im making one at my house (which is rare) i use this rotating pizza cooker and the pizza hast to be golden brown on top with lots of warm sauce under the crispy cheese crust :D

I like the cheese on the crust and the crispy cheese too. I've never tried an inside out pizza with the sauce above the cheese, but it's something I need to try.

I have tried Chicago-style pizza and I don't like it. I prefer Italian-style pizza, which is the thin crust pizza with Pepperoni toppings or Quatro Formaggi (Four-Cheese) Pizza flavors.

Deep dish is a pretty heavy pizza and not everybody likes it. I love the four cheese idea, thanks for that.

thin crust crispy, with good mozzarella with the oils that come out, pepperoni, onion and tomato, and a few anchovies. i haven;t had a good pizza since moving to florida 11 years ago, never had chicago pizza but ny and nj pizza's must be something with the dough up north because you can't get a decent loaf of bread or a hard roll here either. unless you call the supermarket bakery stuff good.

I love your ideas- mozzarella with lots of oil, pepperoni.... Not so sure about anchovies, but to be honest, I've never had them on my pizza so I might have to give it a shot. That's interesting what you said about dough in Florida, I wonder what the reason is...
I won't say that NY and NJ pizza is worthless, it serves its purpose in that it's greasy, but aside from that I'm not so sure.
I'm going to try anchovies one of these days. Thanks for the post!

I like all pizzas deep dish thin crust and others. They are all quite good. It is hard for me to pick a favorite. I just wish they werent all so good because there are so many delicious types of them out there. I think they are good and savory. I just love pizza and often eat it like about 3 or 4 times a week.

Right on, snowy! 3 or 4 times a week? You sound like a Chicagoan! I love that you don't even care about favorites too, that's the way to go, I think. Keep scarfing down that pizza and thanks for the post!

That's cool, pizza isn't for everyone. I hate a lot of food that people react strongly to when I say I don't like it. If you've had it in the past, there's certainly nothing wrong with not liking it. Thanks for your post.

All pizza is great, I agree. I usually don't order the works but I totally get it, a pizza with everything, what could be better? I've never had anchovies on my pizza but I'm with you there out of fear. I don't want to order it and then find out I hate it! Thanks for the post and for your enthusiasm, I love it!

I'll eat any kind of pizza as long as it has a lot of cheese. Crust with cheese is good, too. :D
My sister is strange, though. She always orders Hawaiian pizza and picks off all the pineapple bits.

Pizza isn't pizza without cheese. I don't know what to say about ordering pineapple pizza and then picking off the pineapples, though. Thanks of the opinions and the funny story!

Im more of a simple eater. Just pepperoni extra sauce, cheese, thin crust. Thats about it

Simple can make for a pretty delicious pizza. Sometimes a bad combination of toppings can ruin a pizza. I love extra tomatoes on my pizza, and onions are good as well, but put them together and I can't eat it. Thanks for your opinions, mate.

Hi cburns401,
I am not much of a pizza lover.
Yes I love my occasional pizza and all but I guess it might take a true Italian or American to love them.
I don't have any pizza favorites. I just look at the pictures and decide. I will probably take the one with least vegetables since I hate them lol.

hi there, cburns401..
i like thin crust pizza..
Domino's has this double thin-crust pizza which has BBQ filling.. it's topped with mozzarella and pepperoni, sausage..
i also love Hawaiian..
i love anything pizza, actually.. even those home-made ones where you'll just spread pizza sauce on any white bread, top it with ham, sausage and grated cheese and put it in the oven..
there's a pizza variant i am yet to try: the Greenwich shawarma pizza. i think that's available only in the Philippines..
happy myLotting!

There are so many types. I prefer hand tossed myself. Around here though we are famous for thin and crispy. Which is good once in a while.

i love it with LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of cheese. i love to cover it with a mountain of cheese. And because the pizza is warm, it'll melt the cheese. and Awwww HEAVEN!!!
i love thin crusts because i prefer more of the ingredients than the flour. And i love anything that is meat. I don't like capsicum, nor red / green pepper nor the black olives.
hawiian or pepperonis are my FAVOURITE!!!

Haha, lots of cheese is ALWAYS a good choice if you ask me. And because you like ingredients so much I should tell you that Chicago deep dish doesn't mean thicker crust, though they do have thicker crusts. The important aspect of deep dish is that you get at least twice as much cheese and ingredients (if it's quality deep dish), making it the perfect pizza (for me= lots of delicious melted cheese). So thanks for your post and I highly recommend trying deep dish, you'll probably love it!
