Should kids be allowed to play computer games during school days?

I have a kid aged 14 yo who likes to play computer games very much. I allow him to play for one or two hours after ha has completed his homeworks. At the beginning he was not happy about it, but gradually he agreed and used to it. Do you encounter the same problem? How do you handle it? Have your say!

Hi curious,I 'm a student.I agree with your approach very much.I think children can play PC games, but there must be a limitation,or they will be addicted to that, and it's harmful to their development as time goes by.If I have a kid in the future,i will teach him/her to use computer correctly and moderately. Great day to you and happy myloting.

Good advice. Children must be self-controlled when playing pc games because they may become addicted to it when time goes by. Parents must control the time for their children to play. PC games may bring about bad influence to Children's study. Parents must analyze whether their son or daughter is easy to be addicted, of course, different personnel has different experience.

In our generation, our parents don't allow us to play during school days. But only on week ends where we can relax our mind and enjoy being with them too. I don't know about this generation that has been hooked into PS games, PC games and other online games. I know it is addictive that is why it will be difficult to control such a kid once they started playing on a daily basis. Their focus is divided to the games that they play if not for studies. You can check their grades , and see if they improve their marks if you allowed them to play on a daily basis. It is still your decision as a parent if you will allow a day to day game playing or not. As long as explain very well the causes of playing games once their marks turned low. Happy Mylotting!

My kids did not have a computer when they were in school. But I think children do need a break from their studies sometimes and they should be allowed to play for some time. As long as the games do not become an obsession there is no harm in allowing them to play at all.

Your kid must be so lucky to have you.. when i was a kid, my mom allows me to play video games after doing my homework and studying my lessons..i guess parents should allow their kids to take a break at least 1-2 hours after doing all the school stuffs.. but it's best if they do activities that are educational too like watching barney, dora, coloring books, etc..

Thanks for your good ideas. This is perhaps a better way to take a break after doing so many schoolworks.

I think playing computer games in limit does not do any harm...I have also played games even during my exams but this relieves my stress and I am then ready to study...Also, I am in the top 3 ranker of my class and I score 80% above..

I think a more important factor is self-control. You can limit yourself time for playing pc games, very good. Thanks for your opinion.

As someone who played a whole hell of a lot of video games from middleschool through to about my senior year of high school, I can say that videogames are absolutely detrimental to academic achievement. Espescially if the person in question is into high-involvement games, like MMOs (World of Warcraft, Eve, Everquest, whatever.) Thanks to high-school alternatives (Woot for finishing senior year and a bunch of things I failed three-four months early.) and community college, it didn't affect me whatsoever, but I can say that while I did play games every day I was absolutely not doing my homework. And hell yes, I lied to my parents about whether it was done so that I could go play games. Yes, I sometimes got back up after my parents went to bed to play some more. So, do know that games can inspire the desire to not do any work today, I'd rather play games. Oh, you know what, I'll just play for 15 minutes. Yeah, yeah. Three hours later, your kid has a report due the next morning he hasn't started on, and five hours until he has to turn it in.

I think yes they can be allowed to play them as long as they do their homework and study as well. If they can't manage to do both, I would take the game away as a parent until they can prove that they can act more responsibly.

Computer is a miracle of the time. It is a magic machine. We all enjoy to work and play on computer. If we are allowed to enjoy our life and time on computer, then why should we stop our children to keep them away from this useful machine. Playing children seem well. they become intelligent and fit in every activity of life. we should not stop them to play games on computer. Play is basic right of our children. they should enjoy their life. We should offer and provide them the games which help their studies. Playing on computer increase the skill of working on computer.

Yes, I let them use the computer - we don't even have a limit - since they do so many out door activites and are active in sports. Some days it will be many hours in front of the computer - other days not even a single one (they are 9,5 and 11,5) they don't play much games on their computers at the moment! If they were playing anything lik World of Warcraft I would let them do that a few days a week and for a longer period, since it can take some time to finish the tasks and/or quests you are doing. Esp. if you're in raids.

Hello curious888. I do not know if you have heard of a Chinese named Zhengyuanjie. He is famous in China. His education concept is unique. He even encouraged his son to give up school when his son was in primary school. He also encourage his son to play computer games. He says playing games is better then reading books. It can develop many ability of the child. Maybe it is of sense to some degree.

I am a student. From my perspective, I think playing computer games during school days certainly does harm to the study. I have many classmates who plays computer games a lot during school days, and most of them are not so good on their study!

It's harmful to their study, if they can't control themselves. Thanks for your opinion.

Hey, I'm a 13 year old and my parents do the same for me. I LOOOVE Xbox 360 and yea, I argue with my parents about the limits, but when I really think hard about it, it's for my own good so I learned to accept it. The approach my parents take is straight forth, "Ryan!!! If your not off that game in 1 minute, you play it again for a week!" That usually gets me to stop immediately.

NOT TO SAY THAT I'M GOOD ~ But, I have lesson them about what is a "QTM"(Quality Time Management. Where, previously I sat down together with them in doing their routine and daily time table. I took all the kid's life elements; academic, indoor and outdoor; for their daily activities. An easy saying, a time table similarly to their school learning subjects time table. BOTH PARTY WINNING METHOD In completing their daily activity time table, we friendly argued and "quarreled" certain things to matched up for what parent's want and what they need or want to do before reached the agreement. Yeah, quite interesting and exciting things when parents be friend to their kids. I feel very close to them and I want to be the first person in this world to know their problem, they agree with big smiles!. NATURE-NURTURE-LEARNING Parents and kids in and by comparison, justly like water and plant. Not easy to reach "moderate" level but it can be done. If too much water, the plant will die and too little water will dampen the plant's growth development.

In my opinion, i guess I let my kids to play a computer games or video games during school days but there is limitation and rules. Sometimes kids are need to rest their brain too after the school works and after day of school co'z they are not get more stress.Kids are easily to get stress cause they are not much know how to balance hectic or pressure time at school. So, for me its fine they can have a time to played and watch TV even during a school days with our guidance as a parents.

My 9 year old is only allowed 30 mins. That is from 8:30 to 9:00. And that is only if everything is done, homework, bath, etc. I label it as his quite time. That will probably end in a few weeks once his baseball games start, we won't get home until after 9:00, so no more computer games.

When I was 14 I had only permission to play my games during the weekends, and that worked very good.

Well i think yes not because i am taking the kids side but just because we can take it as a sort of bribe to them?? just see you can flaunt them by saying if you comeplete your homewrk in this time or if you complete your lessons and reading part with so muc accuracy then you can allow them to play on computer for atleast half an hour to 1 hour. i think it works they tend to study with more efforts because they have to win the time to play their games right?

I think computer and video games should be a priveledge. They should get to play them at limited amounts, but only after their homework is finished. Encourage them to focus more on their education rather than games.
