well, depending on when you quit, you may not have tried the recent updates. Runescape is now in HD (pretty sweet!) and you can hunt, and summon animals and monsters to help you. id say if you have a lot of time and like RPG, its worth it. as for the money issue, just use prize rebel to get your codes. just fill out a bunch of surveys with bogus info and you get points, and after 9 points, you get runescape membership. its what i do because its hard to pay for school, food, houseing AND runescape...

While I was playing it, it did seem worth it,
it took away a lot of my time, but still worth it.
I quit a few months ago, around October last year and it doesnt seem
like it was worth it anymore.
Try Rose Online, this game seemed a TON more fun than Runescape.

well it's hard to explain, it is very fun to play, but you kinda waste some time. It all depends on what you really WANT to do. If your considering an outdoor activity to get you "un-addicted" try air soft or paintball.

I played Runescape for years, mostly as a non-member. I got up really high, at least as far as non-members go, I think I was level 62, 75 mining, 65 smithing, 40 arching, etc, but then, I just got bored, so I became a member. After the initial rush of having new skills and places, it just got boring again.
My point is: eventually, Runescape becomes doing repetitive things to level up. And the most annoying part is that the later on you get, the less often you level up, so you never get to feel that you accomplished anything.
It was really fun, actually, to be a non-member and to just see how far I could get, I was better than alot of members. My smithing was freakin amazing.
But to answer your question, yes, it's a waste of time, if you're at the point where you just do the same mindless thing for hours a day. And it's a waste of money if you're doing that, and a member.
It also matters what priority Runescape takes in your life. If you have alot of free time, then maybe Runescape is ok. But if your grades or work is suffering because of it, then I would say it's not "wourth" it.
Also, at least it seems to me, you can never just play runescape every now and then....you're either addicted, or don't play.
