I don't get the whole interests thing..

Why can't we have normal forums! I don't get why we have interests and all that.. that means I miss out on a lot of the other discussion going on. I also don't like the fact that after every post I make, I have to go through two pages afterwards... tags and something else. Is it really necessary?
