I was wondering why do laptops behave like human beings because as they age (just after two years) the memory goes down. I had one with 512 mb RAM and now it has gone very slow, I have already formatted the hard disk but no results. Technicians advise me to increase the Ram, is there any answer or solution for this.

Your computer probably needs some extra maintenance such as:
cache clearing
defragementing
getting rid of unused programs
cleaning the registry
get GlaryUtilities. It has like 15 system tools in it, it's free, and it works well.
Also remember that some programs are very ram-costly. For example I have fireworks and dreamweaver but only 512 MB of ram. Doing these two at the same time would be a freeze fest, not because my ram is aging, but because too much of it.

Well there are other things you can do, but at this point maybe your ram really is too old.
It's not unusual for that to happen (though a lot of times it can be reversed, but it's too early in the morning for me to remember all of the other things you can do..I have them written on my other computer but I'm too lazy to go get it).
Computers, and not just the ram, do age. After all just the mere using of the parts causes things to move and/or heat up. Your ram (or motherboard or processor or other things that could still affect your computer speed) may have been damaged over time. It's like erosion for mountains - can't help it.

i think that you should follow the advice of the tecnicians. With the addition of programs, the ram 512 is difficult to make them turn. I have an acer laptop originally from 512mb and I had the same problem, then O added 2gb of ram and now my pc is much faster.

Hi,
Well I think that the main problem is because of your hard drive. Okay, when you put more and more stuff on your hard drive, logically your computer slows down. This is the main reason, as it is the main reason why my computer slows down. I had another computer before, a few years ago, and the more junk that I put the slower my hard drive got. But when I got a new laptop over 1 year ago, I decided to not store and install garbage applications that I didn't need. So that is exactly what I did, and luckily ever since I have had my computer which is over 1 year, it hasn't slowed one one bit. And also, it only has 1GB RAM running Windows Vista Home Premium with only 1.5Ghz. The log in time as soon as I type in my password still remains 5 seconds. But even though you have formatted your computer, your disk drive needs to be totally changed. Then also, upgrade the RAM to 2 or 4 GB whatever your laptop can actually handle. Hope this helps!

Check the bus speed of the ram you installed ,is it same with the older one? and also brand you purchased.Preffer only branded rams such as samsung zion etc....
DOnt put very high bus speed rams.If your pc wont support that bus speed it works on ly in the less bus speed even it is high bus speed ram.

Well, that's simple. As technology increases, computers get slower. If you upgrade to Windows Vista your PC will get slower. If you use youtube, Java, etc. Each version you upgrade, the slower your PC becomes not matter how fast. Therefore, you need to upgrade on RAM and CPU speed to keep up with the demanding software being made everyday.
