I signed a petition at WalMart today to lower property taxes in my county. Recession - property values decreased my home by $30,000, but the county raised my taxes by $300 this year. It's not right! We must address it. What do think of your values and taxes?

You expect your appraisal district to lower the assessment without a fight? I hope your petition is successful.

And they're going to get a fight. Looked to me like half the folks coming in and out the doors were adding to the signature list. I live in a 1200 sq. foot modest home on less than a quarter acre, just inside city limits. They have my taxes at close to $1800 a year now, up $300 from last year, and the property values of homes in my city dropped about 20 percent since last year. Something will need to be done--even in this 10% unemployment county.

Hey, you are not the only has grudge on this property tax issue. Many of local citizens also have such issue with the county government. The county government usually raised the appraised value of every property in order to earn more tax, at the end, you would find out that your property in the market price just much lower than the appraised value from the government. So, you did the right thing, sign a petition, and ask them to lower it.
