You know it's time to upgrade your PC when it's no longer meeting your needs! It's that simple! The people who need to upgrade the most are PC gamers obviously because they have to meet the games system requirements. Also bussiness people need to upgrade often because they need to get more work done faster. If you want a PC for just web surfing, chatting, and looking stuff up then you're good to go for 10+ years from the date you bought your computer. And yes believe it or not a Pentium III 933MHz CPU with 384MB of RAM is still good enough for a decent but very basic computing experience.
Here are my Minimum PC requirements for 2009
For the gamer and multimedia person
CPU: no less than a Core 2 duo doesn't matter what speed
RAM: 2GB Gamers need at least 2GB of RAM now!
Hard drive: At least 300GB
Video card: No less than an nVidia Geforce 8800 with 512MB vRam
For the bussiness person
CPU: Pentium Dual Core or Athlon X2 at least
RAM: 1GB is a must
Hard drive: 200GB at least
Video card: integrated will do
For the Web surfer, chatter and such
CPU: Pentium III 1GHz
RAM: 512MB
Hard drive: 40GB
Video card: almost anything.
If you're like me then the last one is all you really need for now! It is that simple! Not saying my compter has those specs though. My computer exceeds those but just barely and I'm still fine. Don't let them big computer companies steal your money! Only upgrade when it's really the right time for you. I can't stress enough that if all you use your computer for is Mylot then you won't need a new one for a very long time.
