meeting people online,how do you feel about it?

Ok,so there's all kinds of web sites a person could use to meet people they dont know or people they already know. Personaly I think its great. For example, you move to a new area you've never been before. You know absolutly no one, and no one knows who you are either. How comfortable are you when it comes to going about using the internet to meet people. Or how comfortable would you be if someone apraoched you on the internet. There are all kinds of things to worry about like people who are nt who they say they are. Like mabey a raper. Or even just a sick minded stalker. there are so many possibilities. Even good i mean ive even had a lot of great friends and even relationships come from the internet. I'm sure a lot of you have. In my eyes I think its cool as long as you can get to know the person and gain some sort of trust. What do all of you free minded people think of this? Good? Bad? Or just both?
