Hi all..I am facing a real problem these days.. last 4 years I was in college living in a hostel with friends and there I used to sleep normally at 3-4-5 AM in the moring and then wake up at around 11-12-1 in the morning.. I know that is kind of a awkward schedule but that's the way in hostels..
But now..I am working so I have to drastically change my schedule..as I need to go to work at 9 in the morning and I am not able to do that. MAny times I have got scolding because I went at around 2 .. What should I do.?? How should I change the habits..even if i try to sleep early i can't..

Habits have to be replaced with other habits. That's the way you can break the previous one. Once you make a good habit it is as difficult to break it as it was previously.
Habit making basically repeating the routine so I suggest that regardless of the difficulty you have to make it a point to jump out of the bed at the time that is right. When you do this for a week or so, you will feel sleepy at 9 or 10 in the evening and go to sleep then and wake up when the alarm rings at 6 AM.
Also there are some techniques like NLP [ Neuro Linguistic Programming ] which is a very powerful technique to break bad habits. Try searching online for it. It would definitely help.

I have used this trick once or twice, but let me warn you, it is not recommended by many people, but it DID help me drastically change my schedule.
What I did was to force myself to stay up. I got up at my normal time and stayed up until after work the next day. By the time I got home, I was so tired, I went to bed at a decent time, and was able to get up when I needed to.
Like I said, it is not helthy, nor would many people recommend it, but it did work well for me.

Well, abhi_dude,
You could set an alarm clock for 8 o'clock or eight thirty, that will give you enough time to dress up and refresh yourself, and you should keep that clock in a place a little far away from you so that you don't just end up asleep again after hitting the "stop alarm" button, for example, if you are sleeping on the bed, don't keep it on a sidetable, try keeping it in a place where you caan hear it and get up,walk over there and then press the stop alarm button, so that you are fully awake and don't feel like going back to bed, I think that should help, there can be another solution to this problem, if you are living with someone else, andthey get up early in the morning, try asking them if they can wake you up at the same time.:) I hope this will help you,

Students tend to develop this kind of habbit over the time when they stay in the hostel for a long time. I think this solution can be you try an sleep an hour early and get up an hour early. This hourly thing will help you over the time. It would be difficult initially but over the time your body will react accordingly.

Have you ever experienced the jet lag. It takes about ten days to get back to normal time schedule. Have patience, and do not be too excited at normal sleep time, no coffee or tea in the afternoon or evening. I believe you will be ok in due time. Anxiety will lead you to the opposite. Have faith in your will, have a glass of milk before going to bed. Here is one more method i try frequently. That is before going to bed, look at a simple bright color picture for a few minutes. Then close your eyes, in your mind or in front of you, you will see the picture, keep it so long as you can, and try to lead yourself to a random endless furthering, sometimes a bit like the time tunnel, etc. That drives me to sleep very soon. Try your luck.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? Maybe you could get a prescription to help you fall alseep, and stay asleep. You don't have to take it forever, just until you get used to your new hours. I have had to do that before. You don't take them long enough for them to become habit-forming. Just a little while. Then your body will naturally change its "clock".

I have faced the same situation as yours. I am into final year of engineering and I am staying at home for doing my final year project. I spend the past three and a half years in hostel and I used to sleep very late at night, pretty similar to what you have done.
It is not very difficult to change the time table. Try sleeping before ten or eleven for 2-3 days in succession and you will get up early on your own, without any alarm clock. It might sound difficult but it is not as difficult as it sounds. You would really feel fresh once you get up in the morning early.
Thanks

could you sleep a little earlier like 10 or 11 at evening? if you can not fall asleep at that time I suggest you do exercise at 9 O'clock at the evening, after the exercise I am sure you will feel exhausted and could fall asleep easily,it's not oly better for your heath but also good to help you fall asleep.I used to do this before

Personaly, I am the same way. The only way i could get over it was to just do my best to get to sleep as early as possible. Then wake up go to work tired for about two weeks. Then i would finaly start to come around and get used to the schedule. I know it sounds a little goofy, but it works. If it dosn't than go talk to a doctor and mabey get put on meds to help you sleep. Ask about Trazedone, Or Saraquell. They both have helped me make to bed early enough to get up early.
