Its not a matter of do you think anti-depressants work or not. It is proven fact that they do. In your case or in others that anti-depressants did not work is mostly due to incorrect diagnosis of the person. One needs to be honest about what is making them unhappy before anti-depressants come into play.
I believe that anti-depressants is not the answer to being free of depression and it is only a temporary relief and does not solve the problem. One needs to dig deep within themselves and find the source of their unhappiness and what is triggering it, rather than swallowing a pill thinking everything is going to work out.

i think they work for some people. my son says he can function without them. but i have been told many times i need them but refuse to take them. i've heard to much about what they do to some people. and side effects etc. i just cant bring myself to do it. i figure i've made it this long and what did people do before them?

I think these depressants work to a certain extent. Upon which, if relied upon heavily might cause some side effects and if not stopped, can prove to be fatal.
On a personal level, I've never used these depressants before. I've heard of how it can really soothe the mind and lullaby to sleep, however, with that said, I'll still like it very much to be able to uplift my own mood to happiness and be able to sleep with my own free will. And not by some medicine kicking it in..
Anti-depressants, sleeping pills and whatnot should be used like rarely. That would be the best way.

Anti-depressants do work. I know someone who have taken anti depressants because it was actually prescribed by the doctor. I think there were serious issues involved and now, that person is doing much better than he/she did when he/she was having problems. I think the anti-depressants at the very least kept him/her from doing anything that would hurt himself/herself more :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

They definitely work. I know this because I have been on them 3 times in the past. They helped me tremendously, but the only problem is that when you can no longer afford to take them anymore, your whole system goes nuts, and your depression is 100 times worse than it ever was.
