Why we never appreciate all achievements of someone while she/he is still alive?

I am just curious to know. Why we never show and tell everyone all the good things and performance of a certain known and influential man in the society or perhaps an actor or an actress while he/she is still alive.
Let's take an example of Francis Magalona who just passed away this afternoon.
We never know all of his achievements until he passed away. Is this just our own Filipino mentality?
What's your opinion about it? Let's share it...

It is just because when we get somethings near us or some loving people with us we actually dont care. because we tend to tkae them for granted as we have already got them. but when time comes for them to leave us inspite of their trying for us to get our love and failed.. then after some time we start missing their company and teir care.. and that is the time when we regret because we did not care for them wen they were with us,,

You're right. We never realize the importance of that person until that person gone forever...It's so sad..

Yes that's why some people said, "they would never play a hero cause they don't want to die earlier"...cheers

I don't think you can really say "never" on this. Obviously some people are appreciated before their deaths. But many aren't. It is kind of odd but some people just seem to be born before their time, to use a stupid old cliche to describe this phenomenon.

We do appreciate it, but we are not more vocal about it.
In truth, a persons worth can only be sum total when he
is gone. From there we begun to realized that he is indeed
a good and unique soul that is worth for our appreciations.
That's the way life goes.

For your first discussion, I'm not sure that is always the case. For example, Francis Magalona has won some awards from music award giving bodies - that is a big recognition to what he has done. He is also considered as the "Master Rapper" and he received that distinction long before he got sick. Persons who are exceptionally good in their respective fields are often recognized by their peers or by the institution where they belong through awards and recognitions. As private individuals, I'm sure they are also rewarded by the respect their family and acquaintances give them.
As for your assumption that we often missed to know the achievements of a certain person until he/she passed away, this happens, partially because we never took interest on a person until he/she is being publicized for something. But if you are in the same industry, for sure you will now who are the best of the best in that field.

Yes that's my point. Is that mentality only here on our country or it is also in other places?
