Hello all!
As you all have probably heard by now, that Filipino artist and master rapper Francis "Kiko" Magalona, or Francis M., as he is most popularly known, succumbed to leukemia early today.
Magalona has battled with leukemia for some time now, since he was diagnosed late last year, but he has also successfully undergone chemotherapy sessions.
When Francis M was diagnosed with leukemia, it came as a shock to many Filipinos, including myself. Francis was so full of life, vibrant, energetic...he remained youthful despite his age (he was 44 when he died), probably because of his music, which is rap, and he identifies with the young people of this nation.
He always looked very young for his age, as if he never aged at all, from the time he started in show business until his death--or that is, until he was overtaken with leukemia. He dresses in jeans and meaningful shirts, sometimes with a cap and funky jewelry, much like the rappers of today. But his music was not just rap full of crap--his all-original composition was so full of meaning about life and about being a Filipino.
I could not imagine Francis battling with cancer--the pain, the chemotherapy, the diet, the medications, etc. Sure, they had money to finance his medication, but still he does not hold his life in his hands. And maybe, his sickness is already bad enough that no matter what medications, his body could no longer contain this deadly blood cancer.
During an interview while he was already sick, he was pale and weak, but Francis managed a cheery disposition. I could not imagine the agony he was experiencing then.
It is such a loss though to the music industry. When Francis finished his chemotherapy sessions, he was able to recuperate for awhile and was still able to make several public appearances, including a TV commercial for a popular coffee drink brand.
Well, goodbye to you FrancisM. The Filipino people will miss you.

Yeah, even when I was still small, I could already listen to most of the songs that he use to play. Even that Royal Tru Orange Commercial isn't really hard to forget.
Well, could there be another one like Francis M. who epitomizes patriotism?
