Does Your Cat Ever Get The Hiccups?

My husband and I were sitting on the couch with Shakti sitting in between us. He likes to get between us and prevent us from getting too intimate on the couch. We both had one of our hands on the cat, and were just sitting still. Suddenly Walker and I noticed that Shakti was BOUNCING every three seconds. Walker eventually concluded that Shakti had the hiccups. He did that for about 6 minutes straight, and then stopped and gave his head a shake. No more hiccups.
Does this ever happen to your cats?
How do cats get the hiccups?
How do they stup hiccuping?

Dogs usually get hiccoughs more often than cats, but cats do get them. Dogs get them unmercifully. The person who commented above regarding moving a hairball is right most of the time. Most times when I've had a cat with hiccoughs, they hock up a hairball shortly after.
Speaking of dogs, the next time you see a dog yawn, make a very loud noise. It will startle the crap out of them and they can't tell where the noise came from. When they yawn, the tubes from the throat to the ear canal close and blocks their stereo hearing. They'll go nuts trying to figure out what happened.

Thanks Vlad.
That's funny as hell about the dog. Isn't that what you used to do with Pebbles? haha Now I know why she used to run around in circles and knock over my computer desk all the time, when we lived in Arizona. LOL

I have never heard of such a thing. I don't really pay attention to our cat she doesn't like me and I'm great with that.

I've had a cat or two get hiccups, never could figure out how they got rid of them, but I'd coo and talk to them while they had them.
I have psycosomatic hiccups, if something bothers me, I'll get hiccups every time I even think about them until I verbalize the issue - go figure....

LOL I have never noticed any of my cats having hiccups, but really I don't think there is any reason why they can't have them.I guess they can, and the proof is your Shakti. And most probably they stop the same way we do and we - at least me - never know what makes them stop LOL one minute I have them , the next minute they're gone hehehehe

My cat has never had the hiccups before, but she has had the sneezes. I'm not sure that I've heard a cat sneeze before. Or if I had, I don't remember. I would think that hearing a cat sneeze would definitely be something to remember.

I grew up with cats & they used to get the hiccups, I always thought this was hilarious. However, I don't know how they get them or get rid of them. I have 2 dogs now & they get the hiccups every so often & they bounce the same as cats. I've always thought it's kinda funny when they get the hiccups (cats & dogs) because you can see the look on their face as being frustrated - we all know houw annoying they can be :)

I guess cats can get hicups as well as dogs. But I think your cat was trying to move along a hairball. It sometimes takes awhile to bring one up and this may have been the begining and he brought it up later. I have seen it take days and several bouts of hicup type behaviour to accomplish this.

My cats also had the hiccups and they sneezes too, thats so funny and interesting. And i don't have any idea how this could happen :D
cat is an animal that loves to wash their fur with their saliva. sometimes they vomit too, getting out the hairball that had been collected in their stomach.

One of my dogs gets the hiccups occasionally. I try the old wives cure by scaring him so I clap my hands real loud and it invariably stops them. It is so comical to watch as he is not sure what is happening.
