Do you agree that most of the illnesses are caused by our eating habits?

Yes I agree. Eating habit and erratic lifestyle so to speak are the culprit! I think a lot is actually on our upbringing and the legacy of mis conceptions that we pass onto from generation to generation. Our culture and society have long been associating good health to being FAT and affluence is measured in that yardstick! A slim and a lean person would mean that he couldn't eat well and is underprivileged!
I am glad that we are trying to come out of this and with the media busy endorsing various products that they find lucrative,( with little validation though),the flip side is something commendable! We are more conscious, aware and motivated unlike a few years ago.
KNOWING OUR NUMBERS is a must for each individual and taking care of the numbers would mean being conscious of our diet and life style. Health should be the no. 1 priority - that's how I feel.

Well said. You must be one the right person to comment on this discussion as you are associated with medical profession.
Regarding the mental make up of our society I remember what one of my fat jovial friend said jokingly. He said that his servants will not respect him if he becomes thin thinking that he had made heavy losses in the business. The always revere the well fed boss who looks rich.He is a hilarious person.

Yes, I do believe this fact. It seems very funny but very true and the other cause of disease is the unclean feet.

Looking at menus posted outside restaurants this past week, I came across an entry. They offered a "Cowboy Steak" - 44 ounces of beef.
A healthy portion of red meat is three to four ounces, though most restaurants offer eight ounces as their smallest portion choice (Sirloin) or twelve ounces (New York or Rib Eye) Some have Porterhouse which is twenty or more ounces.
Getting a normal sized portion of popcorn or drinks (or candy, it just occurred to me) is impossible at movie theaters, and they do not offer any healthy alternatives, unless they sell juice or water for $4.00 or more for 12 ounces.
If one eats out a lot here in the United States, portions are outrageous. Good for growing kids maybe, with metabolisms that burn off the fat, but I'm over 50 now. I'm not interested in their syrups they serve as drinks and multiple-sized portions of every bloody thing except vegetables. That some soak in animal fat, or worse probably. Who knows what they are serving their customers? It's not disclosed in the menus.
Even if you cook your own food, you don't know the process of the processing plants, or the farmer. What are the Artificial and Natural Flavors on the label? What chemicals did the farmer use to get rid of insects and trick the soil to growing bigger grains and vegetables without adding It's getting to be you have to be a farmer to know for sure, growing our own food. Having an apartment, that is not an option for me.
I'll have to get into the habit of cooking for myself again to get my weight to normal.

That reminds me of the documentary I hav seen last night,The earthlings. It is so disturbing and I just cannot believe that the butchering of animals in America could be so dirty and loathsome. There is a gruesome story behind every finely packed meat in the super market.

Yes I do agree. If we have regular and good eating habits we can prevent many disease. Breakfast should ideal and healthy and should not skip the same. At dinner, it is good to kept half stomach empty which helps to proper digestion of food. Timing is also important, eat the food at the same time everyday is excellent. We should avoid fried foods and pickles which may damage our health in long run. If we can adopt a healthy eating habit and can avoid junk foods definitely will helps us stay healthy. I would like to add, drinking enough water is also important to stay healthy.

Hi balasri. Yes I absolutely agree that many of our illnesses are the result of poor eating habits. The biggest killer of woman is heart desease. Blocked arteries are often caused by poor eating, too much fat intake, too much salt,
Also all the chemicals that are fed to animals such as cows, are passed onto us when we eat steaks ground beef etc. Just as our unborn babies are eating what we eat, we would be effected also by what is fed to animals that we eat.
Fertilizers and pesticides used on vegetables and things, are not the ideal accompaniment with our salads.
I asked this very same question to an elderly gentlemen about 12 years ago. I asked him what he thought contributed to his long healthy life..He was 86 at the time.
He said he thought it was because he NEVER in his life, ate fast food!..How incredible in this day and age.

Most certainly Bala and also by the wrong type of foods. As a kid i loved sour fruits and that aggravated my tonsils. Then there are soft drinks, junk foods, spicy foods...the list seems to be going on and on. Sometimes these effects do not show up initially and we realise it later.

There is little disagreement on the fact that the food that we devour is at once good and adverse to our general health. Not being selective in the food servings would only be detrimental to the human body.Good eating habits are to be developed for a body abounding in sound health.
