over stimulation in the class room???

I recently went to a parent teacher conference, and Is it just me or do the teachers seem to put tons and tons of stuff on the walls in the class room? I understand that there needs to be things on the walls to make it seem a happy, inviting place to be. But i am starting to wonder if it is ALL necessary. I am not saying take it all down just some of it. Seems there are so many thing on the walls that it would over stimulate the child and hinder the learning... especially for children with sensory issues? what do you think?
