There are TONS of magazines that buy travel photos! There's a book you can buy that has a list of all of these magazines as well as detailed instructions on how you can send them your photos, where to send the photos to, how much they pay, etc. called Photographer's Market. They release a new updated version each year. You can buy the 2009 version on Amazon at:
http://www.amazon.com/Photographers-Market-Editors-Writers-Digest/dp/1582975469/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236634160&sr=8-1
If you want to sell your photos to magazines, you need this book!
If you're interested in selling your photos online, I have some information and websites listed in my blog http://funonlinemoney.blogspot.com/2008/12/sell-your-photos.html

I sell a lot of photos to the websites I have listed in my blog. I've sold some photos to local magazines, but that's it.
I have the book, but I haven't tried submitting my photos to any of the agencies or magazines listed. The book also lists contests you can enter your photos in, and I've entered a lot of contests listed in the book. I've thought about submitting to magazines, but I'm trying to work up a good portfolio of images first.

If I had photos and stories to sell I would try a magazine like Real Travel for Uganda which appeals to adventure loving traveling. Another idea would be to ask travel companies that cover Africa like Trail Finders. Once you have sold photos and stories to a few different magazines and websites you will have more knowledge about marketing your African travel photos. Good luck.

I just found this article on how to start a career in Freelance Photography... You could maybe use it to help you, just not as a career if that's not what you want :P
